Already #2 in the UK after 2 weeks. It's quite the stealthy disco banger and Sam sounds really good for once.

    Great video too :disco:

Nice to see the Blond Ambition Tour dancers still getting work (well at least one of them is)! :disco:

I really like this, it's so catchy. A few of my friends have the reaction of "oh this is good, who is it?" "It's Sam Smith" "Oh no, I don't like it then". , Poor guy.

I quite like it but it's just so very similar to "One Kiss"... fair enough though, strike while the iron is hot and all that.

I don't even mind Sam Smith so much to be honest, it's nice that he's branching out. We need another George Michael!

I love Sam Smith's collaborations. La La, Omen, Latch and this isn't too bad either (though I COULD do without the annoying female voice cooing tonight GET RID)

but his solo material is so fucking insufferable and makes me want to kick puppies

I like it (although I’m hoping there’s a more exciting remix) and I agree that we need a new George Michael so Sam will do nicely: he does have a lovely voice even if his solo material is crucifyingly bland and whiny. And let’s face it, he’s got form on the BALLOONING front :disco:

I'm not sure we do need a new George Michael. But I'm quite sure if we do, I don't want Sam Smith to be it.

This is wonderful and yes he does sound great, on the chorus especially - it could be a sample of something glorious. A bit less is definitely more for him vocally.

He would be well advised to mix his solo stuff up a bit. There were definitely diminishing commercial returns with his second album (I don't think I remember hearing anything after the first single) and I can't see it flying if he comes back with more of the same.

I remember when you liked Joe McElderry. Gurl go have a seat.

Something a little more OUTRÉ would do very nicely. He can ditch the gospel choirs and needy bleaty ballads for starters

I don't think you do. Or at least only in comparison to who he was competing against on X Factor that year

I’ve never really got over his scrapping the feather boas and lip gloss (:disco:) and going all dismally STRAIGHT ACTING so I request seven inch heels and mascara for the next album, with a seedy production by Pye Corner Audio

Yeah I did think I was probably wrong but wanted to get a fake argument going to increase my post count this week to be honest.

And you chose Joe McElderry as the topic for such potential drama? :D

Well I mean he did duet with George Michael and there was some bullshit from about 9 online gays about him potentially being the next GM..

I'd LOVE to read tomorrow that little Joe had been out cruising for cock, or crashing his car under the influence.

He needs to tell Capitol to FUCK OFF with their poxy polo shirt and shitty suit demands (those suits really were a career low - so horribly inauthentic) and start turning up for meetings and rehearsals in latex leotards and wigs

It is a bizarre selection, and I really do not need to see him topless. But I do applaud the choice of not having a selection of doe eyed stunned mullet in suit pics that all his promo seemed to be for far too long.

I think he was always DOOMED to suffer a bit of homo-suppression for the second album, given his market and how much was riding on it performing to sub-Adele levels.

I think he’ll work up his image through the campaign in a similar vein to the previous Years & Years album, allowing him to be a bit more OVERT next time. The only reason Olly Alexander got away with it so early on is there was far less conmercial expectation.

I quite like Giant musically but Calvin hasn't managed the same trick he did for Sam Smith - Bone Man sounds pretty horrible on much of it.

Giant enters at #7 in the UK.

Calvin has now had at least one top 10 single every year from 2012-19 :o HITMAKER

He has pulled it out the bag at LEAST once a year since 2012 to be fair.
