I was meaning to post a poll for this a few days ago when I watched it on TV, they have it on every Christmas, I don't mind, I really love it.

So they're planning to make a sequel to this (funded by Netflix), and there has been some drama over their decision to recast Julia Sawalha and their initial reasoning for doing so:

Here's the vocal comparison video she made.

What do we think? Is it a case of ageism, or wanting a bigger name actor for the part?

It’s pretty stupid because so many will want to watch for the nostalgia and it’s an unnecessary change

I think part of the problem is that they had already used this 'too old' explanation for why Mel Gibson wasn't asked to return (when it's more likely due to him being PR poison), so they're applying it to other cast members to try and make it look less like bullshit.

I reckon it will have been a condition of the deal with Netflix...without Mel Gibson they probably think they need a bankable name to hang this on, and poor old Saffy ain’t it.

Surely just telling her they need a bigger name would be better than that rubbish excuse?

Does anyone really care (like, too much) about having huge names for an animated movie? I mean, maybe they do, I'm not exactly a film buff. But I couldn't give two hoots who is voicing a role in an animated film.

It never used to be an issue, but ever since Robin Williams voiced the Genie, most animated films publicise themselves on at least one major star name.

I've never understood it! There's an entire industry of voice actors for animation, I've always wondered if some of them secretly resent that celebs get these big roles that they'd probably do better with :eyes:

It's purely for publicity, so that they have a 'name' to do the rounds when the film comes out...

Oh yeah makes sense, and no doubt pulls in fans of said people. I guess as someone not that concerned with films etc I’m not bothered who is behind the animated character.

I would love it if she was replaced by NADIA SWAHALA.
