I've only listened once to the French version and I thought it was enjoyable but nothing made that much of an impact outside of the songs I already knew.

I'll give the English one a go this week.

I've listened to both twice and I think it's good but not great. I marginally prefer the French version but I'm not sure if that's because it sounds more natural or if it's because the lyrics are a bit duff.

I sort of feel the same. It's perfectly enjoyable, but a bit of a disappointment on the whole.

This as much as I ever managed.
I do love “Girlfriend” and “Doesn’t Matter” though.

I hardly play the album but I just paid a ridiculously high amount for a 1 track "5 dollars" promo CD-R on discogs - partly also because of the cover

This is careering down the charts at quite the pace. #44 already.

Performing 5 Dollars on the Graham Norton show tonight. I don't see that song having the same impact that Tilted did for her in terms of performance, but hopefully she'll surprise me.

that was an ok performance on Graham. I always get caught up in the choreography, it's like watching a movie

what's with Chris Pine though? he looked like weathered clay (still gonna fast forward to the full frontal in his new movie obviously)

Yeah I thought Chris Pine looked old as well.

And I thought there was a curious lack of chemistry between the guests. It got a little better when Michael Caine came on, but prior to that everything felt a bit awkward.

Sally Field was VERY catty in my opinion and as fine an actress as she is, it must feel very inhibiting for other guests, and probably Field herself, to have to pretend-display such awe and veneration

    GOD

the front half of this album is utterly INCREDIBLE

the first 4 tracks are such a rush. It reminds me of Every Open Eye by Chvrches in that it's all very good but all the properly great stuff is front-loaded. Girlfriend and The Walker :disco: the production throughout is fucking immaculate. What a record.

also to ADD that her grasp of melody is really astonishing - the final minutes of The Walker and Doesn't Matter where she comes in with new toplines/hooks or reworks earlier melodies over the chorus refrain are absolutely blinding. especially amazing when you consider that she writes alone - I'm surprised she's not an in-demand songwriter (or maybe she's not interested in writing for others)

The Walker was my favourite on the album too. Overall, it lacked the diversity of the debut so didn't grab me as much but I seem to have been far from alone on that.

The Walker and Doesn't Matter are definitely the back to back peaks of the album.

Yeah, I've been underwhelmed. And the lack of diversity octophone mentions has left me not listening to it since the new year.

Doesn't Matter BANGS HARD, of course.

she gives an absolutely wonderful breakdown of the writing and producing process on Doesn't Matter (which is now my favourite) for song exploder - definitely worth 15 minutes of your time, listen here
