The nearest hub they've opened today is in Wickford, which is a town of 30,000 people in the arse end of nowhere. We literally have a stadium.
A glimmer of light though in that daily infections seem to be falling. More important now than ever that everyone sticks to the rules.
Yes obviously not wanting to speak too soon but the cases seem to be decreasing quite rapidly now - about 22% down week on week. I’d like to hope that means the peak of the pressure on hospitals will happen this week.
Fines of £800 confirmed for parties of over 15 people. Great news for those among us who don't have 14 friends anyway!
I kinda feel if you're breaking the rules then there should be a fine, regardless of how many people are there. My neighbours had a party on Saturday, there were 4 different households mixing but not as many as 15 people. I think they deserve a fine.
They would still be able to be fined @Star but it wouldn't be this new £800. I assume it would be the original £200
Fair enough, as long as they do fine! I suspected there was something going on but they were quite smart at sneaking people in this time so I didn't have solid proof. It was only when I saw the photos on fb the next day. Shame you can't report after.
Like Boris has a clue. He's just covering his own back now, although he's going to need 4 layers of Kevlar if this carries on much longer.
What is this ABSOLUTE bullshittery being debated about giving people who test positive a £500 grant? What is that going to do other than incentivise people go out and catch Covid? Am I missing something here? The way I see it, that’s two and a half house party fines covered. Result!
Yeah. The financial measures have been fucked from the very start. The financial incentive so often is to do the wrong thing. A UBI from the start was so obviously the best path forward.
I think they've basically cottoned on that people aren't quarantining from work because they can't afford to, but rather than fixing the underlying issue - unsatisfactory sick pay - they're just throwing money at people who test positive because they don't want to acknowledge issues that need addressing, or set a precedent that they'll want to backpedal on later (see: school dinners over half-term, the £20 rise in Universal Credit payments).
The idea is to persuade them to stay the fuck home rather than spreading it! Especially for people who would lose income from the loss of work. But it's not gonna happen.
It’s only for low income people who can’t work from home or receive sick pay. My colleagues were just asking me about trying to claim it, which is utterly stupid.
I'm sure the incentive has positive intent but it's justbl paved the way for bullshit headlines from the likes of Sky News - "£500 FOR THOSE WHO TEST POSITIVE" and that's all the stupid people will take from it.
I really can't imagine many people risking their long term health for £500 and two weeks at home. Though if they did it would speed herd immunity along nicely, so I'm surprised the government aren't going for it for that reason.
That obviously is more sensible, but I had got the impression it was more widespread than certain categories. I’ve just seen however it was a classic leaked document job and there are “no plans.”
That's the current situation but the (denied) rumour is that it will be for everyone regardless of situation
This government has such contempt for its people. All their decisions just remind me of Donald Trump throwing paper towels at homeless Puerto Ricans. Smile, offer an incentive, chuck in a few soundbites and the minions will keep quiet and let the kings and queens rule peacefully.
Oh absolutely fine thank you. Still have a cough and hardly any sense of taste/smell but it’s gradually coming back. Am dousing all food with hot sauce and pepper to make it taste of anything. Flatmate is much worse but still improving just at a slower pace.
I hope you feel better soon Ellie. We now have lots of lateral flow tests at work so I’m happy. I did one today and it was negative. I also purchased an oximeter To be fair it’s done wonders for my anxiety to see the oxygen levels are good
I got given one of those for the vaccine trial. It’s a bit temperamental if you don’t put your finger in JUST RIGHT. (bit like me then)
I don't watch Boris Johnson on TV but apparently he's just confirmed that the new UK strain of Corona is deadlier than the previous one :/
