Grrrr. Off work today and the men's gymnastics and diving take place tonight.

What's going on in the afternoon to benefit from watching it live?

Kyle Edmund in the tennis at 3pm UK time, Heather Watson on at 6pm and there's the Canoe Slalom and Rowing.

It seems that SVT (our BBC) ran out of money this year after hosting Eurovision and because of the Euros since apparently they aren't broadcasting any of the Olympics. I don't have the channels that are showing it. But we too won a gold medal last night. YAY.

    WHAT? :o

The Olympics is far more important than the fucking Euros.

It's a bit concerning that Eurosport are trying to shore up all the Olympics rights - I don't think anyone is going to get PayTV just for the Olympics and a reduced view ship will surely impact on any kind of legacy and inspiration.

Yes, at least some parts of it. I think this is the first time that only paytv have got the rights to show it.

Is it just me or has there been booing at some of the events?

I'm surprised you don't have a law equivalent to the British one - the Olympics and other key events have to be available on free-to-air channels here.

There was lots of booing at the opening ceremony because Brazil in general is really pissed off with their shitty government

No idea if that's spilled over into the events though.

South American sports does have a bit of a booing culture. Dustin Brown and Venus Williams were booed for no apparent reason in the tennis. Brown initially received a cheer when he fell and twisted his ankle which forced him to stop when leading Brazil's Bellucci.

The Russians are being booed due to the state doping scandal. Some of their competitors haven't helped themselves though. Twice banned swimmer Yulia Efimova wagged her finger to say "I'm no1" after winning her semi final which is anatagonising. She was called out by her US rival King after it who was 0.01 second faster in her semi final so the final could be interesting.

To be honest, Russia really shouldn't be there after that report. I imagine the CASH they SPLASH swayed the IOC but I'm quite glad it didn't get past the IPC.

Dressage up on BBC1 next. Not my favourite event AT ALL. The cross country course looks brutal too. It used to be my favourite discipline when I was a rider but this one looks rather grim.

I'm watched nothing but tennis because, well, that's my job, but generally the Rio crowds have been VILE. Not too different from Roland Garros.

You can't really blame them. My BRAZILIAN EX has told me it costs a FORTUNE to be there. Most of his friends can't give a FAT FANNY'S

So many empty seats to boot. Funnily enough I'm paying way more attention this time, than I recall I did for London.

London were, I believe Sydney was before that. This is normally coming from the President of the IOC, so God knows how much cash was splashed on such statements.

Of course, having personally been a part of Omega's "no costs barred" effort in 2012, I have experienced what "there is NO budget" transcribes to :disco:

I guess that would be considered having a monopoly and not allowed here but I wish we had it.

Cringing at these poor horses falling on their heads/necks on this tough cross country course, I'm no expert but the riders are coming in at tight turns with too much speed, the commentators just said the same as I typed this. #nowanexpert

Male gymnastics and diving at 8pm tonight. The red button isn't working for me, so I'll be stuck with whatever the Been decide to show.

Male gymnastics and diving... Why put the effort in downloading soft gay porn, when you can just switch iPlayer on?

It kind of goes against the whole idea of "it's not the winning but the taking part that counts", which is the spirit of the Olympics. Especially for a nation like Brazil that doesn't exactly have a long record of winning medals themselves.

We don't tend to boo athletes who have spent years training out of respect for their skill and talent. It just makes the Brazilians look like fucking morons. This isn't Big Brother.

    Russia can fuck off though.

I don't endorse it though, it's just been like that ever since I can remember.
It's very telling and it shows South America's true colors and I also think it's embarrassing.
Even if the athlete's outcome is not the desired one they deserve the applause and cheering but alas, it's never been the case in most situations. Now that you bring this to my attention it'll only be a matter of time before it hits the news.

    how crass
good to know they only mention Brazil doing this, I Thought it was other countries as well since it's very common to hear about this in every single football match I've seen.

I watched some boxing this morning and it was about 80% empty and the shooting just now, there was virtually no one there. What did the UK get so right that Brazil are getting so wrong?

At least a slightly crappy looking one happened after our awesome one.
