Oh I briefly saw this earlier and had a moment and then a pizza arrived. I someone doubt there's gonna be a ANY CLUB BANGERS like Flux or One More Chance...

Like dear Kelly Rowland i am literally DOWN FOR WHATEVER with these guys. I love the quiet stuff about death and comedowns, and i love the big mighty stompers.

I just hope it's CATCHY with ACTUAL LYRICS and EMOTION, which i seem to remember was a bit lacking from much of Kele's solo opus, imo.

Sweet christ at that cover. I'd washed it from my thoughts.

ANYWAY, new group album announced today. Unlike the last one it's sadly not coming out within 24 hours, but will 'drop' (as dickheads say) on August 20th. It's called FOUR.

There's a (mostly obtuse/unexciting) trailer which has some snatches of music. The last one sounds like So Here We Are's had a BABY <3

Let's hope the lead single does better than the lead single of another recent album called four.
    Still, well excited!

Apparently we FIND OUT TODAY :o

Well there was a press release last week that said the single (OCTOPUS) gets released July 3rd, though nothing seems to have been said since then. There was also a tracklist, which seems like standard Bloc Party -

    01. So He Begins To Lie
    02. 3x3
    03. Octopus
    04. Real Talk
    05. Kettling
    06. Day Four
    07. Coliseum
    08. V.A.L.I.S.
    09. Team A
    10. Truth
    11. The Healing
    12. We're Not Good People

I have been listening to loads of their stuff recently. I think i love them more than ever so PLEASE DON'T FUCK UP NOW. Though if album 2 or 3 (especially 3) are anything to go by then the lead single won't be one of my overall favourite songs.

It would appear to be postponed then, and I was so excited reading this thread last night.

I see their new album drops (sorry TP, it's entered the lexicon) the same day as Yeasayer's new disc. Going to be an amazing week.

I just signed up to a members-only bloc party forum to see if there was any more news, except i read the first page wrong and accidentally clicked the button that said i was born after 1999, so instead of a confirmation email i got one with a form that i now have to print off and get my parent or guardian to sign saying that i'm allowed to go on the forum, which i then have to post to the moderator in America. It MAY TAKE SOME TIME.

This'll mention any news if/when it happens though. I bet Kele's had one of his strops and deleted all the master tapes.

Oh and there might not be a new single yet, but being reminded that Kele's middle name is ROWLAND has brightened up my day once more :D

EDIT: and the little pointy faced guitarist has tweeted that Octopus is coming next week now. FUCK YOU BLOC PARTY

Oh apoca it leaked last Saturday! Some loveable mong at the US Amazon somehow put it up for sale five days early by mistake, the silly billy. I tried posting it in here last night but literally ALL the links had been taken down now. I'll try and pop it in the fridge (next to the blueberries) for you/northernlad/any other interested parties shortly.

I've already PLAYED IT TO DEATH and never want to hear it again for a good while, but i really did like it beforehand. It's definitely not an all time classic and i fully expect there'll be better on the album, but it's a bit different whilst being very bloc party, is quite bonkers, and has a shit load of hooks/TENTACLES. I think Kele Rowland sounds great on it too. At first i was a bit sad that he was so low down in the mix on the verses and a bit ineligible (i think lyrically they're my favourite act of the past few years so it's a SHAME to MISS OUT) but it sort of suits the song.

Today is 100% RUNAWAYS DAY for me. It is quite ridiculous how two of the four current acts i love the most are returning in the VERY SAME WEEK. I wish they'd spread the wealth about a bit but i'm not complaining right now.

Edit: it is now IN THE FRIDGE

Oh I think it's great! I love that guitar riff. I am curious as to when we get proper lyrics for it as I can't make out half of it. And I hope we don't have to wait until the actual release date to get the full album.

I think that's a LOVELY little video. It compliments the song well and has made me want to play it death ALL OVER AGAIN. I'm so pleased they're properly back.

And check out Kele being all confident and happy looking! That's a new Bloc Party feature. Ditto Gordon's pornstache (strangely attractive).

Girls Aloud and the increasingly ropey Kylie Ann are probably the other two still-making-music acts who have given me the most joy over the past few years, although i'm not sure i'm allowed to say this without fucking VoR kicking off about me saying it to seem 'clever' (?!) again

And i want the lyrics too. Their website used to have all the official ones, but that bit seems to have been hacked off in the latest revamp. MARY ADAM seems to be an artist though, if that is who he's singing about. I thought he was going "Let me at 'em" for the first ten or so listens

Any luck yet Ruddy? I still really really like it.

And here's an ALBUM TRACK: 'Day Four' -

    [SC]http://soundcloud.com/blocparty/day-four[/SC]

At first i found it a bit nothingy and was quite sad that the frankly BEAUTIFUL instrumental was bunged away at the end rather than being more central to the song, but it's definitely warming up on me now. It's a bit different for them, and i think it's quite clever how its all sad and angsty and then you get this beautiful big cathartic release at the end, like you've accepted your fate and/or found peace or some such [/wanky analysis].

I saw a FB update earlier...

Today is was given a leaked copy of the new Bloc Party album... fuck me sideways, right at the last minute when you'd fucked up so bad on those last 2 albums and that cruddy solo album, you have redeemed yourselves. No more stupid european dance beats, no more lifeless quantised drums, plenty of distortion, guitar solos. thank you.xxxxx

Wow talk about MISSING THE POINT.

Still, it sounds quite alright based on a quick first listen - will be giving it a proper go tomorrow.

They have since explained that they LOVED Flux, but felt the sound was a bit tired by the time the album came out... I can't disagree. And I NEVER DID love the solo Kele album. He was aiming at his indie crowd to BE FAIR. He ate his words a little, as considering he sort of bullied me at school, he now loves me on FB, had to kiss my arse a WEE BIT.

I will always love Flux. One More Time has managed to stand the test of time absolutely BRILLIANTLY as well though. You cannot deny that piano-house hook.

The Tiesto Mix of One More CHANCE did save that period of their career. Flux remains my most played song ever. Mind you, Eurphoria isn't TOO FAR OFF.

How are people finding this? I am basically HEARTBROKEN :(. It's just NOT what i WANTED. I really really REALLY hate the angry shouty guitar shit on the first two songs (+ a few later ones). I mean i'd just go and buy a cd from RAMMSTEIN or whoever if i wanted such CHARMLESS UNPLEASANT NOISE. And the rest just feels so below par compared to what they've done in the past (imo). There's barely anything that feels like it could be a classic, i find the lyrics basic and mostly lifeless, and a fair few of the songs i get bored with whilst listening to them. This has NEVER HAPPENED with Bloc Party before. I still play the other albums regularly and find new things to love.

I do however think Truth is LOVELY, and i still like Octopus and Day Four, AND i quite like Kettling, but i just hoped for SO MUCH BETTER. There's nothing that i think can hold a candle to about 90% of their back catalogue. May it bomb terribly and lead to another Bloc Party Goes Dance inbetween single and subsequent hybrid album or two PLEASE. And hopefully K-Row's life/relationships will go tits up again. Happy contented Kele doesn't seem good for the music.

I'll keep trying with it though. And i'll still be buying it tomorrow, like. I ain't no teef.

Oh oh oh, scratch ALL of that post - i fucking LOVE IT now! Very nearly every song. I really don't even know how anyone could feel otherwise about it - and let alone me, two days ago - so perhaps i'm a SCHIZOPHRENIC now. Though maybe the stream wasn't doing it justice or something

I think Truth is still my favourite, but i've found SO MUCH to love elsewhere, and a lot of that is down to the lyrics i think. I was on the verge of weeping to the ones of Real Talk on my way to work this morning. They're just beautiful and quite recognisable (though "watch the sunset from your SEDAN" could well be the new blueberries in the fridge). I do find it constantly interesting to listen to now as well - it's got loads of layers and i keep finding new bits to love that i hadn't noticed before.

I don't think there's a single song that's up there with their very best songs, but that doesn't really matter to me because it's so consistently strong and interesting and exciting and beautiful and OTHER GREAT THINGS.

*Suedey smiles down from moopy poster heaven, approving of this ludicrous u-turn*

    Octopus

It hid and it hid in his bedroom
Psycho killer teen dream action film
Gonna show you how we get down
    in my hood

    Bubbling bubbling cheap champagne
Leyendecker hole wrecker feel no pain
Lying face down when I swing your way
    And what?
What's my name what's my name?

    Mary Anna said it's a no-go
She don't feel like, she don't think so
I don't know why I feel like crying
    Well come on, come on
    Say come on, come on

They ran and they ran from his classroom
Roll another 40, make them scream
Gonna show you how we do things
    in my hood

Tripping and a-tripping, erase all tapes
John Wayne, Rob Roy feel no pain
This is the point where you look the other way

    You done
    Lost your mind

Nope, ME NEITHER. Though i find verse two a little bit arousing. And i still hear 'Mary Adam', though the lyrics booklet says it's Anna.

(can somebody else post in this thread now pls thanks)
