I've just watched Wittgenstein and I didn't like it

    It promised so much:

    1. Maths
    2. Channel 4
    3. Homosexuality

There was barely a WHIFF of COCK or MATHS throughout the whole thing. And too much philosophy, which I don't like anyway.

Oh I love Derek. I'd say try The Last of England, or Jubilee, but none of his stuff is conventional.

I've tried with Jarman but a good chunk of it is just badly filmed amateur gay porn. Let's face it, if music by Coil and narration by Jud Dench can't save yer film, not much can.

Sebastiane is the only one I can really remember. For very obvious reasons.

I don't mind unconvential, but Wittgenstein was just POO.

I've got Sebastiane reserved on LoveFilm. If that's poo too, I might just GIVE UP.

Sebastiane wasn't at all bad. But I couldn't imagine recommending it to anyone who wasn't a gay man unless they were weed smoking failed poets. There isn't enough substance beyond the homoeroticism to warrant it.

This is only vaguely related to Jarman (who appears in it) but has anyone seen 'The British Guide To Showing Off'? It's a documentary about Andrew Logan's Alternative Miss World. I watched it on Tuesday and I can't recommend it highly enough. Properly lovely, life-affirming and hysterical.

Oh Eils. Well I don't like him at all except for all the explicit homosexuality. I would like to see the shit he did with Lord Tilda Swinton, mind. I think I'd rather eat out a scab ridden meth whore than watch Blue.

That said, the artwanktastica excuse for porn that was Sebastiane was a wank staple in those dark pre-internet days, along with the greenhouse scene in Scum. Thank god for the Channel 4 banned season.

The Queen is Dead video was of course his finest work. :disco:

Didn't he do the backdrops for the First Pet Shop boys tour as well?

I think so... he also did a video for Suede and there was a programme of him screened before his death where he was working on a collage of a Madonna pic, circa Who's That Girl.

I remember one film about Caravaggio or something where Dexter Fletcher of The Press Gang played a rent boy. And now I'm reminded that Fletcher had an acclaimed film as director last year. Good old Spike. :D

He wasn't a rent boy - he was young Caravaggio. And I've never seen him look so fuckable.

I've tried very hard to warm to his OEUVRE but I think I prefer the idea of him rather than yer actual films. We presented a season of Jarman films at college a few years ago and I ended up sitting outside giggling and necking my way through boxed wine rather than subjecting myself to 'Blue'

I've seen that bald headed man in a televised version of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida. He played his character like a drag queen and was completely blind in real life.
