The council estate where I grew up is subject of a BBC4 documentary at 8.30pm tonight. I posted a link on facebook to let my brother know, and he's also shared it. Now all his friends are waxing lyrical about how great it was and how the government has ruined it by 'letting them all in' (it does have a very high Somali population). But for fucks sake, it was ALWAYS a shithole.

I will never understand Britain's fascination with bricks the colour of shit for council houses - is it a way of letting the PLEBS know their place? They look so drab against a grey sky (so most of the times).

They have actually cladded most of those in that clip (well, the ones that weren't demolished in the 90s) with multi coloured cladding now. And they look much worse :D

Multi-coloured? :D Can they not paint them white like any decent Georgian house? Dark brown is a terrible colour for a facade, as it gets older and mossier it just looks more and more like BLACK. I imagine this was the standard colour in places where industry fumes would corrode painting very easily and white would suffer the most, but the Industrial Revolution was three centuries ago!

One of my Swedish friends has recommended this 3 part series which starts on BBC FOUR this evening, called "Don't Ever Wipe Tears Without Gloves", about some young GAYS in Stockholm!

    10pm tonight.

I've seen the first two episodes and it's really quite marvellous. Benjamin <3.

I'm almost dreading the third one. I watched the second episode on a flight and was blubbing my eyes out. It's not really for public consumption.

I saw the one with Viv Albertine earlier. That woman is astonishing for nearly 60.

I like these shows, but they do feel a bit like a self indulgent circle jerk.

I watched it today, he really is completely ridiculous.

Thought it was an excellent documentary though, more interesting than previous ones I've seen in terms of how it developed and eventually broke down.

I enjoyed the story about how he almost got his family KILLED by filling their aeroplane with 4000 records and refusing to ditch any of them when the plane started failing due to the weight :D

I really can't believe that nobody in his family stepped in to suggest that buying 4000 singles while in Miami on holiday may not be an entirely sensible thing to do even if you have daddy's private jet to bring them home on.

Yes the film looks good, certainly better than that Soulboy one from a few years ago. I thought featured star Lisa from Rochdale looked much better than she has lately in her talking head bit too.

This series about MUSIC and FASHION has been a bit LET'S SEE WHO WE CAN DIG UP AND THEN TALK ABOUT THEM

I mean I love SUZI QUATRO and DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS as much as the next GAY (i.e. NOT VERY MUCH) but I don't think their FASHION CONTRIBUTIONS are worth FIFTEEN WHOLE MINUTES OF MY PRECIOUS TIME

I was quite amazed at how long they gave Suzi and her leathers in her ego loft. I've enjoyed it though.

Just (FINALLY) caught up on the Northern Soul doc I'd ENTIRELY forgotten I'd taped and what a JOLLY OLD ROMP it was. Except that fat PRICK Ian Levine banging on about being the world's most important and correct person about EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD again. It comes to something when you make Pete Waterman look reserved.

I really want to pull a Northern Soul All Nighter. Do they do them anywhere that isn't up North these days? I mean, I'm not getting on a COACH.... :D
