It's pretty funny to remember when she was a very frail, goat-voiced indie chanteuse and compare it to her sexy new image doing hip-hop songs with Rae Sremmurd.
I could never listen to the last album all the way through, but Something in the Way You Move, Keep on Dancin', Holding on for Life and Devotion are all some of the best songs of her sell-out phase, I can't believe none of them got pushed properly.
01 Anything Could Happen
03 Lights (from the award-winning motion picture Spring Breakers)
04 Love Me Like You Do
05 My Blood
06 Something in the Way You Move
07 Keep on Dancin'
08 Starry Eyed
09 Holding on for Life
10 This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)
Can't wait for this. God I love Ellie Goulding.
Keep On Dancin' is still part of my life support.
I am not a fan but she has produced a few TUNES. I reckon this will be quite good.
her first album is amazing and thanks to @Jark I finally gave Dead In The Water a proper listening and has crawled its way into my Top Ellie tracks
1. My Blood
3. Dead In The Water
4. Under the Sheets
6. Stay Awake (W/Madeon)
8. This Love Will Be Your Downfall
9. Wish I Stayed (Demo version obvs)
10. Outside (w/Calvin Harris)
The first two albums were brilliant. Shame about the last one
That lower case m is a hate crime
What's this shit with ampersands being replaced with what I'm assuming is a multiplication sign? Is that ginger toby-jug Sheeran responsible?
They proper fucked up the release of that one but there also wasn't a single that could save it later on.
Okay but what do you think of the new song?
I don't dislike it, but it could be released by any other act and nobody would tell the difference. It's like the purest form of Spotify wallpaper music.
I don't have Spotify so can't hear it yet. I'm assuming the Instagram preview with the vocal pitched up to sound like a squirrel with asthma isn't particularly representative.
Also re: "Swae Lee". In Glasgow, a "swallie" is a reasonable to large number of alcoholic drinks (that is to say, "you coming for a swallie?" carries implicit that this will not be one drink then up the road).
It took about 60 seconds for me to confirm that I LOVE this I feel like it will be huge. It's so feel good.
Her last album was truly an excellent pop album - fuck knows why they released the worst song off of it as single #2 ("Army")
1. Don't Panic
2. Love Me Like You Do
3. Something in the Way You Move
4. Holding on for Life
5. Anything Could Happen
6. Keep on Dancin'
7. Scream it Out
10. Around U
THAT'S more like it. I really like although I could do without the non-Ellie verse (I literally don't know whether that is Diplo or a "Swallie").
It's Swallie and I actually really like his verse.
Thanks I'm sure it'll grow on me
Debuts at #36. That's got to be quite disappointing, surely?
good cause it's shite isn't it? Diplo keeping those GOOD songs to himself or for Sia to take
She's back after a 3 year break, give it time. It's doing very nicely on Spotify.
In fact it's only of only 2 new entries in the top 40 which shows you how much of a long game the singles chart is nowadays.
#36 is fine. Ask Sonique when she came back.
I don't think this is going to explode and become a massive hit, but it does seem to be building nicely.
This is the way nowadays tho' isn't - better to bubble nicely over a prolonged period rather than have a high position then crash. No-one cares about chart positions these days, streaming platforms don't use the official charts at all, I think?
It's up to 11 on Spotify so almost certainly going to go top 10. I really love it. It's such a warm song, a perfect contrast to this miserable weather.
Oh that's good - looks like it may be taking off a bit then. It's a solid tune so I'm pleased.
So this ended up peaking at 17 and is out of the top 40 according to the current update - though it's still at #12 on Spotify so I think it's been a victim of Streaming rules and getting lost in the Christmas rush more than anything.
In America it's doing very well on Radio, jumps up to 33 on the Hot 100 this week, giving Ellie her 7th top 40 hit there. (5 solo + 2 guest vocals for Calvin Harris)
It fell out of the Top 40 a few weeks ago.
The ACR would have kicked in last week (unless sales increased significantly - and if they had then she wouldn't be subject to it this week), but I assume the mass exodus of Christmas songs meant it still climbed 57 - 43, as a lot of other songs posted a lot more impressive rebounds.
ACR has fucked her over completely. It would be pushing top 10 now without it.
What a shitshow. 10 weeks is just too soon to start punishing a song given how long they take to gain traction on streaming.
The Hot 100 position is fantastic though, I'm so pleased she's still got momentum as a pop entity despite being away a while. She's one of my absolute favourites.
I get so confused, I thought she wouldn’t have streams cut until about now but obviously not.
However, now she’s back to #27 in the midweeks (maybe it’s increased and reset?). Either way shaping to be an interesting chart run.
Christmas fucked things up considerably - it isn't as straightforward as the ACR kicking in after 9 weeks if sales are falling. I read on ukmix and the rules are so convoluted I can't remember them exactly, but it's sales declining in comparison to the rest of the chart - and apparently the week that all the Christmas songs plummeted out of the chart, effectively everything else had its streaming performance reset.
Either way though, if it's up to #27 in the midweeks, something has given it a kick.
Well it's still #19 on Spotify (think it has been floating between about #8 and #20 for about 8-9 weeks now) - so it is about time it was back up towards the top 20 rather than having dumped out of the top 50. But yeah something has caused it to shoot up the actual chart, despite being stable on the metrics that make up the damn chart!
