    Don’t we have this already?
Anyway, Netherlands 2020 is down to two cities now, Maastricht and Rotterdam. Final decision is supposed to be out in August.

Anyone know why Amsterdam didn’t submit a bid?

They're trying to reduce tourism a bit in Amsterdam, it's already getting more than the city's infrastructure can really handle. So there's no incentive to invite 10,000+ people to descend on the city.

The reason that the city council give was that couldn't hire a suitable site to hold the concert. Ziggo dome was fully booked also the Johan Cruyff football stadium. That is why they withdrew there bid ?. I hope that Rotterdam wins the bid, but all the sign's are that it will be Maastricht.

Rotterdam has hosted before, right? If that’s so, I’m happy for a new city to get it

I don't think so, unless it was decades ago.

Oh it hasn’t! Amsterdam once, Hilversum once (?) and The Hague twice!

Rotterdam's arena is called Ahoy! which so I'm still holding out for the "Hello Sailor!" theme.

I would quite like to go to this, or at least be in the city (whichever one it ends up being) during finals week. Do we know the dates yet? I was thinking of booking refundable accommodation in both cities before the announcement happens and prices shoot up :tongueout:

Do it soon, I think the EBU is double pregnant with an announcement. I think the dates are announced aren’t they?

Oh I beg your pardon, they aren’t. But if it’s refundable, do all of the likely weeks in May!

Prices are already ridiculous as all the hotel rooms have been booked out. The likely week is the week beginning Mon 11 May. I’d probably hang fire a bit but if you find a deal go for it!

Maastricht is beautiful but it couldn't be further away from where I live. So Rotterdam please.

Maastricht feels like such a fucking dumb, inaccessible idea. Way to ramp the costs up for anyone who wants to go :manson:

It's clunkily symbolic but that's it. Surely everyone wants Rotterdam?

Good. Very childish of MECC to already tell the media they didn't get it before the official announcement.

Are you sluts definitely going? I have a friend living in a nearby city so I wonder if I could make it happen this year.

Bloody hell, is it always IMMEDIATELY EXTORTIONATE to find anywhere to stay? :bruised:

Or should I expect things to calm down a little/more places to pop up in the intervening months?

More should open up in early 2020, not all hotels advertise rooms 9 months in advance.

A lot of folk find AirB&B more affordable these days.

That’s good to know re hotels!

The Airbnb prices in the aftermath of the announcement were outrageous. I’ve been looking at The Hague though, only 30 mins away and much more reasonable

I imagine there just aren’t that many hotels in Rotterdam. I looked a month ago and they seemed insanely expensive but probably because not all yet released. Tempted to just stay in Amsterdam and travel in to Rotterdam once

I don't see how it's any worse than most of the recent ones, they're always vapid meaningless things.

Initially I thought it was quite rubbish - “Open up to celebrate” is particularly clunky - but actually I agree with this and also it’s brought THIS work of wonder to mind :disco:
