I might have to watch me a bit of THE AMAZING MRS PRITCHARD to console me during all this. It's my favourtie slightly rubbish forgotten BBC drama series. And yet it still makes for a less depressing reality.

Britain will never have a Chancellor quite as good as the FICTIONAL BUT FABULOUS Catherine Walker.

In addition to being a wanker (and having never won any kind of election to boot, IRONY), she has the most ANNOYING voice ever. So shrill and grating. She makes Anne Widdecome sound like Kathleen Turner.

How DID she end up as Prime Minister? Was that a coalition government not being able to agree on who would be prime minister? I can't remember, but it probably seems less far fetched now.

I liked how she went from deciding to be an MP, to ACTUAL PRIME MINISTER in the space of one episode. It makes Clegg and Cameron's 5 and 9 year gaps look like eternities.

I praise the people of Luton for pelting Sayeeda Warsi with eggs. It should happen to her everywhere she goes.

How HAS she advanced so far in the Conservative party having never won an election?

blatant casting, a true hallmark of right wing politics

they struggle to gain any minority voters because their record on equality and opportunity is so bad, so the few they have get pushed to the hilt

    regardless of their track record...

Last year I think. It was a muslim protest at her supporting the war in Afghanistan where muslims are being killed by British forces. Well deserved too. She's one of the biggest hypocrites in British politics which is QUITE the achievement.

Oh and if anyone fancies contacting Theresa May, here are her details.

    Rt Hon Theresa May MP
    House of Commons
    London
    SW1A 0AA
    Tel: 020 7219 5206
    Fax: 020 7219 1145
    mayt@parliament.uk

I didn't realise she was MP for Maidenhead - a constituency that borders my home constituency. That area is so full of selfish rich twats.

She decided to stand as an MP in her constituency, and then it chimed with quite a lot of women who decided to stand on the same platform as her in other constituencies. She then started to get loads of defections from the three main parties, until she had a fully fledged party, who then won the election, about 3-4 weeks after being established. And as you said, ALL IN ONE EPISODE. It's a LOAD OF OLD HOOEY but I loved it so.

I genuinely think it would've been more popular if they'd showed it a few years later after the banks went tits-up and the MPs Expenses scandal, etc. Because the whole premise of the show is that it's a regular woman who is tired of the mess that politicians make of everything and the way they act, etc. There is a lot more people like that now than there was back in 2006 when it was originally shown.

It might have been more popular if it didn't have TALENT VOID and general ALL ROUND IRRITANT Jane Horrocks in it. DREADFUL.

I must say, you are all dealing with the idea of the new Conservative-led Government better than I imagined.

I expected bitter recriminations and mud-slinging!

I'm feeling quite good about after my utter despondency on Tuesday.

EARLY DAYS and all that but I think Conservative with a Liberal foot on the brake is more palatable than TRUE BLUE Conservative.

    But let's WAIT and SEE.

there is the ongoing consolation that a) David Cameron has the least amount of power of any PM in years, b) the Tories are now going to be accountable for bringing us out of the biggest recession in years, which isn't going to happen overnight, and c) Labour have finally gotten rid of old crony Brown and have a chance to recharge, regroup, and come back stronger against a fragmented and weakened Government

in that sense, they couldn't have it any better than if they had won

Are you saying she deserved it in particular, or all people who support the Afghanistan campaign?

Interesting that at today's cabinet meeting Nick Clegg, Chris Huhne and David Laws were all wearing green ties. Vince Cable's was purple.

Seems as though the appointment of Theresa May as Minister for Equality has gone down a TREAT with people then. I've noticed on Twitter today that a petition is being bandied about and of course a Facebook group has been set up which has about 30,000 members so far. As always somebody has made up a suitable poster for the occasion:

GOOD NEWS alert. Lib dem Lynne Featherstone becomes a junior home office minister with responsibility for equalities. So i'm imagining she'll be working with Theresa May keeping her in check and hopefully actually pushing for equality. :D

Mandelson is doing an 'Evening With...' in Leeds soon to promote his book. My friend really wants to go. It's £10 a ticket, but I suppose it might be quite a novelty to be in the presence of PURE EVIL :disco:
