As much as the presence of Italy can frequently grate (with the notable and utterly outstanding exception of Francesca the other year) and as high as the rate of viewer death caused by boredom during the poxy Festival di Sanremo must surely be, their insistence on sending songs in Italian really is worthy of the finest :disco:

Oddly enough Federica Abbate who co-wrote 'No Degree of Separation' is competing tonight for a place in Sanremo. Hopefully she'll win and send NDOS Part 2.

Nek should have won in 2015. 'Grande amore' isn't half the song that 'Fatti avanti amore' is.

Since we're looning over Francesca, I've been loving 'Io non abito al mare' and 'Bolivia' the last few months.

I might be going to San Remo this year. My best friend Melissa and I have been planning a weekend away and it happens to fall on the same weekend as San Remo. Tickets are a nightmare to get though so we’re trying for press passes.

Doesn’t it go on for HOURS AND HOURS, though? Germoloids are your friend, although apparently an average of 50 audience members actually die of boredom every year, so maybe pack a casket :disco:

Lucky you! I’d love to go to Sanremo.

I’m positively frothing at the gusset at the thought of this year’s LA MARATONA DELLA CANZONE.

The first review of the songs has been released and there's a lot of indie, rock, RnB and rap this year. Also quite a few songs discussing social/political issues (domestic violence and immigration).

Don't be surprised if this year's entry is akin to "Non mi avete fatto niente"

Sounds interesting. I kinda have a feeling the San Remo winner won't go to Tel Aviv. Il Volo have gigs in May which have been on sale for a while, sure they can move it but I don't think they have anything to gain from going again. Nek would probably turn it down too. I think Arisa would be a good choice. She won in 2014 but that was the year San Remo had nothing to do with Eurovision.

I can see Ultimo winning actually - he's been absolutely massive since winning the Giovane category last year and former winners usually do well.

Motta could also be a dark horse even though he's way down in the betting odds. He's a big indie name and his music is VERY ITALIAN. 'Dov'è l'Italia' is one of the songs that discusses immigration and will probably do well with the Sanremo jury.

    Obviously not a Moopy favourite:

This marathon festival of song starts on Tuesday. The format is the same as 2018, with no song eliminations and all artists taking part on the final evening on Saturday. RAI are keeping it short and sweet this year - each night will last approx three and a half hours.

February 5 – All 24 artists will perform
    February 6 – 12 artists will perform
February 7 – The other 12 artists will perform
February 8 – All 24 artists will perform their song in duet
February 9 – All 24 artists will perform one last time

The duet partners have also been announced:

    Achille Lauro
    and Morgan
    Anna Tatangelo
    and Syria
    Arisa
and Tony Hadley (who knew this cunt was big in Italy :zombie:)
    Boomdabash
    and Rocco Hunt
    Daniele Silvestri
    and Manuel Agnelli
    Einar
    and Biondo
    Enrico Nigiotti
    and Paolo Jannacci
    Ex-Otago
    and Jack Savoretti
    Federica Carta & Shade
    and Cristina d'Avena
    Francesco Renga
    and Bungaro & Eleonora Abbagnato
    Ghemon
    and Diodato
    Il Volo
    and Alessandro Quarto
    Irama
    and Noemi & Caterina Guzzanti
    Loredana Bertè
    and Irene Grandi
    Mahmood
    and Gue Pequeno
    Motta
    and Nada
    Negrita
and Enrico Ruggeri & Roy Paci
    Nek
    and Neri Marcorè
    Nino d'Angelo & Livio Cori
    and Sottotono
    Paola Turci
    and Beppe Fiorello
    Patty Pravo & Briga
    and Giovanni Caccamo
    Simone Cristicchi
    and Ermal Meta
    Ultimo

    After LA PRIMA SERATA near 5 hour marathon, it's likely the winner will come from one of the following;

I sat through the whole thing last night, and it was a slog - even coming from someone who understood (a bit) of what was going on. Unfortunately most of the songs were not too my liking. Too many of them had 'sing-talking' including a couple of the ones above.

Il Volo's song is nowhere near as good as Grande amore. I guess the winner will either be Ultimo or Irama. Irama's is kind of ok but Ultimo's is crap. Going by YouTube views, Ultimo has this in the bag. Though I can't see either saying yes to Eurovision.

My favourite was, rather predictably, Anna Tatangelo with 'Le nostre anime di notte'

Arisa's 'Mi sento bene' was quite fun but has bene slated by a lot of fans for being to child-like:

And finally the only woman to even feature in the top was Loredana Berté. This is quite the performance:

Anna was one my favourites too oddly enough! The song won't do anything at Sanremo sadly.

Loredana was pretty much everything I wanted and more. RASPY OFF KEY SCREECHING and HIGH FASHION GLAMOUR offset by her blue rinse and coin purse.

Claudio Baglioni clearly went for DIVERSITY over QUALITY this year. After his comments about migrants and Salvini, I wouldn't be surpised if RAI ditched him as their new head is close to the Lega Nord.

It really is a medicore bunch this year, particularly among the returning artists when you consider what the likes of Paola Turci, Nek and Patty Pravo were singing 2-3 years ago.

Too many of the songs were similar I felt, and not to my taste. After the fifth song with 'speak-singing' I was ready to throw the towel in. There may be diversity but he should also look at gender diversity, the imbalance was quite ridiculous!
