So names for Sanremo are starting to appear, and Francesco Gabbani appears to have confirmed himself :o

Not AGAINST a return, as I loved Occidentali's Karma (horrific stage presentation ASIDE), but this just feels a little SOON - I suppose this could be an Italy-focused thing though rather than a bid for Eurovision.

The whole list leaked via La Repubblica today.

Francesco’s recent music has flopped so he probably needs Sanremo.

To be honest I can’t say I’m that impressed with the line up - ex-talent show singers, a Casa Pound supporting rapper and the talentless heiress to the Lamborghini fortune.

I'm confident I'll take something great away from it. Three of my favourite entries in the last five years are from Italy. And Vietato Morire is one of my favourites never to have made it as well.

The artists according to La Repubblica:

Achille Lauro - Me ne frego
Alberto Urso - Il sole ad est
    Anastasio - Rosso di rabbia
    Bugo & Morgan - Sincero
    Diodato - Fai rumore
Elettra Lamborghini - Musica (e il resto scompare)
    Elodie - Andromeda
    Francesco Gabbani - Viceversa
Giordana Angi - Come mia madre
    Enrico Nigiotti - Baciami adesso
    Irene Grandi - Finalmente io
    Junior Cally - No grazie
    Le Vibrazioni - Dov'è
    Levante - Tiki Bom Bom
    Marco Masini - Il confronto
    Michele Zarrillo - Nell'estasi o nel fango
Paolo Jannacci - Voglio parlarti adesso
    Piero Pelù - Gigante
Pinguini Tattici Nucleari - Ringo Starr
    Raphael Gualazzi - Carioca
    Rancore - Eden
    Riki - Lo sappiamo entrambi
Rita Pavone - Niente (Resilienza 74)
    Tosca - Ho amato tutto

It's probably the youngest line-up Sanremo has had in years.

I'd say Levante is right up Moopy's street, and possibly Elodie at a push.

So Italy have added a couple of extra women into the line up, no doubt to make this less of a sausage fest. Tosca - who won Sanremo in 1996 and recently dug up 74 year old Rita Pavone, last seen massacring 'To Love Somebody'

Also Sabrina Salerno is one of the hosts for the Final. :disco:

Of course, shamefully not a participant () but hoping she'll wheel out a MEGAMIX NEW ALBUM following this. :disco:

So this starts on Tuesday. Approx 6½ hours of QUALITY PROGRAMMING each night until Saturday. I'm sure Kala already has it on pre-record.

Elodie, who took part in 2017 is back 'Andomeda' co-written by MAHMOOD. Rumoured to be a female Soldi and 80s-influenced. :disco:

It doesn’t half fucking GO ON. I watched some of one show once and NEVER AGAIN. And dear God, drab doesn’t even begin to describe most of the truly terrible songs

Sanremo is going at a record pace this year - 10 songs in 2 hours and Al Bano just about going arse over tit down the stairs with Romina Power.

Rita's MOUTH is the highlight so far, receving a standing ovation.

God Bless the Italians and their love of ropey old women. They could teach even moopy a thing or two.

"Andromeda" is amazing! I was sold on first listen - the only other time an Italian entry has instantly won me over since their return is "Occidentali's Karma"

I'm sure it would break the trend of them getting their worse results with women, and would be another potential winner

I think it could do with SLIGHTLY less input from the San Remo Orchestra but apart from that, yes please

Mahmood in Dua Lula drag :disco: something I didn’t know I needed until it happened :disco:

Now please GET RID of that ghastly orchestra, and adding in a tinny backing track and we may finally have an Italian winner :disco:

(watch some old man win Sanremo :D )

Elodie's song definitely could do another top 5 for Italy! A TRIUMPH WITH FLAIR! :disco:

From the performances so far, also really enjoyed the artist formerly known as Cherie Currie singing her heart out in true Sanremo power ballad style:

This seems to be trending the most and gaining momentum in Italy:

Hard to say what his chances are, he was only 9th in the Demoscope Jury votes last night. However Mahmood also didn't do well with them the first day of competitions either so I wouldn't write televote given him enough push to score higher.

I swear the thought of Andromeda v Cicciolina in the final is giving me a right Eurovision hard on.

None of the other big favourites did well with the Democopic Jury either which was odd. Anastasio was 10th and Alberto Urso 6th. Elodie was a bit of a surprise in 2nd place.

I think Achille will do well. He's been massive since taking part in Sanremo last year and will do well in the televote and press jury.

In terms of the other NOTABLES from last night:

    Anastasio - Rosso di rabbia
This is the big favourite but 'Me ne frego' has taken some of the wind out of its sails after last night. I wouldn't rule it out though as Anastasio is a recent X-Factor winner. The music press were hyping this up in the run up to Sanremo

    Diodato - Fai Rumore
Finished 3rd with the Demoscopic Jury yesterday. He's got previous form at Sanremo, finishing 2nd in the Newcomers 'Nuove Proposte' category in 2014 and 8th in the Established artists category in 2018.

Alberto Urso - Il Sole Ad Est
He won Amici di Maria de Filippi last year, one of Italy's biggest talent shows. It's a standard ten-a-penny operatic ballad that always do well. Currently 4th favourite in the odds - he'll do well in the televote but whether the press jury will vote for DATED TAT is another thing.

Why oh why do they always insist on having songs in competition which are longer than three minutes? It invariably causes some terrible gay upset when we’re confronted with mortifying CHOPS
