I'm up to "I'm That Chick" and really liking it all so far. :o

Then again this is no surprise because if I can recall my first listen party I liked everything up to that track.

It should be interesting if I change my tune on it because it really is the only Mumu album I can say that I truly DISLIKE.

Oh well, even "Love Story" is not that bad to these ears now.

And I've always liked "I'll be Loving you Long Time."

Oh dear, I think I am actually CONNECTING with this album for the first time ever. :o

Right, "Last Kiss" is still utter shit as it always was...

... but "Thanx for Nothin' " is absolutely brilliant. Yes, it's always been "Shake it Off" Part 2 but still great. I love it when Mariah goes all "Talk to the hand". :disco:

"O.O.C." - again, liking it more than I used to, and probably the same for "For the Record."

"Bye Bye" I have always liked in its spasticity.

OK now Imma rate all the songs -

    "Migrate" - 11
    "Touch my Body" - 9
    "Cruise Control" - 8
    "I Stay in Love" - 6
    "Side Effets" - 7
    "I'm That Chick" - 8
    "Love Story" - 2
"I'll be Lovin' you Long Time" - 8
    "Last Kiss" - 4
    "Thanx for Nothin'" - 8
    "O.O.C." - 6
    "For the Record" - 6
    "Bye Bye" - 7
    "I Wish you Well" - 8

So really, not as bad as I once thought it was.. but perhaps I need more plays to say OK I LOVE IT NOW.

And no, still not as good as Memoirs.

Not as good as Memoirs (and Am and I have been flogging THAT particular horse for months now) but a pretty sterling effort all round. Not releasing Migrate is on a par with the fuck ups Parlophone made on X though :(

I properly love I Stay In Love these days. Again, it's revisiting former glories but I go nuts for that final note :disco:

i was always against it being tossed, god knows she's more prolific than ever - a dramatic turn in an oscar-to-win movie and two albums in 4 months: that's demand, y'all!

    I know RIGHT

I love how prolific she has been the past decade.

God I'm in a HUGE Mariah mood - my first proper big Mariah mood since Mumu back in Oh Five.

I loved Side Effects. It's so unlike her.

I always thought I Stay In Love was one of her better ballads of recent years too.

I started my 'discovery' of Mariah with this album last week and I really like it a lot.

O.O.C, I'll Be Lovin U Long Time, Thanx 4 Nothin, Migrate and For The Record are my favourite tracks right now.

The ballads make it limp a bit for me, besides "For the Record" and "I Stay in Love" which are both good.

You need to check out Thanx 4 Nothin' again POP!

It gets unfairly lumped in as part of the DREARY THREESOME, but it's actually LUSH. Mariah's delivery is sublime.

I never knew enough about cha babe, and I guess I only have myself to blame, now I'm broken hearted and shattering - That line is a KILLER :(

It's not great, but yeah, you're right it's much sharper and interesting production and vocal-wise compared to the other two.

With all due respect Flo, this statement is highly symptomatic of what I like to call "loon syndrome", in which an artist's hardcore fanbase reject their most successful work(s) sometimes for that mere fact. Other examples include statements such as:

    Music > Ray of Light
    Velvet Rope > janet.
    Samantha Fox > Touch Me

And SO ON and SO FORTH :disco:

That's nice dear, but Music IS miles better than Ray Of Light.

Does the latter have a Paradise (Not For Me). I donnay think so.

Here is a shameful piece of information: I didn't buy any of the last three albums.

Before I get KEAVY LYNCHED, an anonymous Moopy donor bought two of them on my behalf.

I like the way Mariah's career can be conveniently partitioned now -

The beginning / the rise and rise
    Mariah Carey
    Emotions
    MTV Unplugged

World domination / the commercial peak
    Music Box
    Merry Christmas
    Daydream

The rebellion / the 'creative' peak
    Butterfly
    Rainbow

The fall / the wilderness years
    Glitter
    Charmbracelet

    The resurrection
    Emancipation of Mimi
    E=MC2
    Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel

Of course some would say Memoirs may mark the beginning of another downward spiral but I refuse to accept that. :(

I like the way Mariah is allowed to flop now in peace and quiet. It's the legacy of Emancipation.

No-one is ragging her out for the frankly PATHETIC sales of Memoirs. I like that. She earned her dues, fought her way back, and is now (relatively) left alone.
