It's a real visual feast
All this positivity in a Janft thread is highly unsettling.
she looks fucking amazing here
On first glance it looks like she’s reaching down to squeeze his crotch
This is such an earworm. It obviously won't be a hit because she's 52 years old and mainstream radio won't touch it, but I truly believe that if a younger artist dropped it it'd have the potential to be massive.
I think its biggest flaw is that the lyrics are SO PEDESTRIAN. It sounds more like a Pepsi ad than her actual Pepsi ad from 1998 or whatever. It does have an infectious energy /joy about it that she tends to deliver once or twice a decade nowadays.
And in terms of actual success, her commercial success has been limited to R&B/urban AC format since '06 or whatever, which this won't do a thing on. I am pleased, however, that she is trying to re-connect to her pop roots. I think I read that the album/EP or whatever is supposed to be a hybrid of Control and The Velvet Rope whatever that means , less sex?
Good move on tagging Daddy Yankee in this; millions of streams (in Mexico) GUARANTEED. besides it has been added to every fucking playlist featuring new releases.
Since when have you looked to Janet Jackson music for lyrical depth?
This is basically a 2018 version of 'Runaway' to my ears, and all the better for it.
It’s not about lyrical depth it’s about CHEAPENING an otherwise quality pop song w boilerplate cliches that make it sound like it is written for an American daytime talk show . This is why I resent half of Katy Perry’s output , there is a distinct line between enjoyable carefree pop music (“dark horse”) and overused , lazy cliches used over and over again (“roar”)
Mmmmmm... my lips hurt.
YO PUSSY GON’ SWELL UP AND DROP OFF
Thank goodness there are some things we can rely on.
So I played this once and didn't switch off in disgust.
The MIA circa 2006 visuals are on point (well, on point for a mainstream that is unaware of MIA's earlier work) but the song is weak.
IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS ISN'T IT
This is really rather good
Don’t let the campaign of hate from the USUAL SUSPECTS deter you
Still loving this and Dave Myers really has impressed me with his work on this and Ariana's two videos.
Well I bought it and for some reason can’t stop playing that Tonight Show performance. This is a huge step up and her best song and video since Rock With U. Not however in the same league as the good stuff from Damita Jo.
It’s also nice that proper music videos are still being made. I’m so incredibly out of the loop for new pop artists, but I can’t remember seeing a decent and memorable choreographed dance break from any young singers in a long time.
This begs the question, can you name any singer under the age of 35 who is known to be a brilliant dancer and regularly releases songs with energetic choreography in their performances?
Of course not.
yeah but I don't want to eat my words once the DEMO leaks with the original unedited lyrics featuring moaning and J going on about her pussy is still smoking hot at 52yo
The bar I work at has been playing it a lot today. Great crowd pleaser.
I don’t know why I find this so hilarious.
this is such a morning bop
She looks sooo beautiful in this appearance.
First live performance I think. She looks so happy (much to Moopy's disappointment).
Already been posted on Saturday bubs.
Nice to know I'm not the only one looking out for Janet. I knew Moopy secretly loved her.
She's a joke - she's never had a UK #1!
It's the only measure of success. Sadly the moment has passed for dear old Janft to enjoy even a sliver of Cardi B's long-lasting cultural impact.
This was really cute. The girl was great, I'm glad she won.
Forget the UK. Where are her IRISH #1s? That's MY gold standard.
as if she will pass the opportunity to have Cardi B featured on a track in the near future. I'm in shock though she never had Nicki.
then again she's never been the chart hit seeker (at least for the last 20 years)
She was banging down Tasmin Archer's door crying for her to do a feature spot in the early/mid 90s.
Didn't she have a UK #1 album? YES SHE DID.
It's amazing that even when she didn't have a big hit single in decades, all her albums since Control made #1 or #2 in US. This might end with the new one, or maybe not.
Everyone knows albums mean nothing.
I wouldn't bet against it, with the start the single has had.
This is why I think people underrate Janet's status as a legend of music. They talk like she's irrelevant but her commercial decline has been much less brutal than most of the other big superstars. I think because she always disappeared between albums, there's always been a sense of 'new Janet!' in the US and that hype is enough for a respectable opening week. Damita Jo opened to 380k with no hit single. I could see her doing a 150k week if they keep playing this campaign right.
JANFT UP (to #62)
