This girl was on American Idol wasn't she?

Anyway, much as it's totally generic and sounds like Jojo, I love 'Over It'.

Anyone heard anything else by her?

I couldn't escape from her a couple of months ago in blogworld. Never bothered to listen to anything though. Never struck me as my thing, really.

No I can't really see you liking it to be honest. Very much generic teen pop, but of course I'm a sucker for that.

It sounds a LOT like Leave (Get Out) by Jojo actually.

I recommend the abysmal Mr. Mig remix with unnecessary "Migtight, go on back now, tell him how you feel now, go on back girl, go ahead and break it down" rap opening.

I downloaded the album, which she claims not to like very much. And I don't really either. Some nice ballads and okay mid-tempos but nothing touches Over It apart from the tremendous Open Toes, which features the lyrics

I AM SO ALL OVER THIS.

"Had It All" makes me want to have a post-relationship 'OMG WHAT DID I JUST DO?' break down.

    WELCOME BACK KathArine McPhee.

I like that she changed her image, the soft look with long brown hair and generic clothing got boring very quickly. I really don't know how this will do, the single may do well and go top 30 in the States if it's lucky, it seems at least somewhat radio friendly. But I really think the album is going to bomb. Didn't she already get dropped from her previous record label after the first album did somewhat OK as did the first single? I think she pissed them off by refusing to include the traditional 'American Idol' post-finale single on the album.

Her debut album was wonderful. 'Not Ur Girl', 'Love Story', 'Open Toes' and particularly 'Dangerous' are wall-to-wall 10/10 moments.

LOVE 'Had It All' as well. She's a great popstar.

OMG I totally forgot that I loved her flop second single "Love Story", if it was on Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics album and was released as a single it would've been a hit.

    or probably not

Nice, shiny pop video as well:

IN FAIRNESS (and as much as I still love 'Over It') they did try to mould her in to something that was completely unrepresentative of her, and her time on Idol. She was always more AC than RnB. Her voice sounds AMAZING on this record, it's definitely a more comfortable sound for her.

I do hope this album doesn't disappoint, like the last one did, but she has been working on it for quite some time.

Although songs like "Love Story" are probably her downfall as a pop star. She's too nondescript and lightweight, I think. The public can't really get on board with someone who's constantly switching musical influences from Jojo to Christina Aguilera to Colbie Cailatt to Judy Garland etc.

My favourite Love Story scene is where she's crawling across the table seductively and nobody, her crush included, even bats an eyelid :D

Reminds me of Sarah McLachlan a bit - the song, not the voice.

She looks a state doesn't she!

This was the track that she sung on CSI? It is LUSH. I'm well excited about the album, but I agree she needs to get RID of the blonde hair.

And so the album has officially been pushed back until the 5th of January, it's all a bit deja vu for poor Katharine.

Oh and annoyingly it's impossible to find a good quality version of 'Say Goodbye' online, where the volume doesn't dip low HALF WAY THROUGH. WHY can't they just release it on UK iTunes?

Okay, so amidst my Carrie and Leona over-saturation I remembered how beautiful "Say Goodbye" and "Lifetime" are. Please, please, PLEASE let "Unbroken" be released.

I am listening to this on repeat.

    GLORIOUS

It's a career-making song. THAT GOOD. If there were any justice it would become the new Angel by Sarah McLachlan but it will probably never get a decent shot. Still, I'm glad it exists.

I'm totally digging the blonde hair now that it has grown out a little bit (and doesn't look like STRAW). :disco:

The album definitely feels more at "home" for her. It really complements the strengths of her voice, but girl needs to PROMOTE. Otherwise there really is no justification for delaying the record.

She performed more tracks at that Walmart Soundcheck including a pretty nifty version of "Over It":

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LgQkxw2Hn0c&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LgQkxw2Hn0c&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

PLUS my favourite song on the new album, "Brand New Key" which morphs in to a cover of George Michaels "Faith":
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bREBN8FWqAc&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bREBN8FWqAc&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    She's covered bloody Melanie...DEAR GOD.

The two singles are pleasing MOR singer-songwriter/light country stuff though and I think she looks great now, though hardly recognisable from when she was on Idol.

The album is projected to do between 13-15k for its first week sales in the US, I honestly expected to do worse. It should have a shot at top 40 too with those sales, since it's January.

I'm loving this performance of "It's Not Right" on Jimmy Kimmel Live

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xegexlde8jM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xegexlde8jM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

She does look like she's being exorcised at 3:25 though :D

    On Chelsea Lately:

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MmmcoTDqX_A&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MmmcoTDqX_A&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

And I didn't know she did "Who Wants to Live Forever" on American Idol, it's very good but Stacey still did it quite a bit better IMO

    Where's SDF AT?

I caved in and gave the girl a sale off of iTunes and am genuinely liking the album and the overall atmosphere. The 1-2-3 punch of "It's Not Right"/"Had It All"/"Keep Drivin'" really is phenomenal, I'm loving the AC pop-rock sound... there's even a BANSHEE tint to "It's Not Right", which is my favorite song on the album.

    Rate:

    10 It's Not Right
    09 Had It All
    09 Keep Drivin'
    06 Last Letter
    06 Surrender
    06 Terrified
08 How - great little POP song, who'd have thought
    09 Say Goodbye
    06 Faultline
    06 Anybody's Heart
    06 Lifetime
    06 Unbroken
    07 Brand New Key

OK so it's a bit flat in parts, but in summary, far better than I expected a Kat McPhee album to be, and it's worth it for the highs alone. :disco:
