This is scrapping the bottom of the barrel a bit. RIP the accompanying charity single.

Hardly recreating the heady glory days of Perfect Day and S Club 7. Did we know Girls Aloud's Something New was a CiN singles? *never plays again*.

I feel like Katie Melua only ever pops up around Children In Need these days.

This really is terribly uninspired. She hasn't even been in the top 40 for seven years, and her last top ten was over a decade ago. Surely they could have got Clean Bandit or one of the One Direction lot to smack a 'all profits go to Children in Need' sticker on one of their upcoming singles or SOMETHING...

After suffering through the last Comic Relief, I feel like some of the longer term TV charity events are losing their charm, status and appeal.

Did The Wanted have a Children In Need single once?

    God, remember The Wanted?

I feel like that The Collective was a Gary Barlow effort. I'm glad he's fallen from the heights of public affection.

Yes, and if that is true for Comic Relief it applies even more so to Children in Need.

And if Melua is really the best they could rustle up couldn't they have thought of something slightly less obvious for her to cover?

The Channel 4 cancer one is the best of the bunch these days. They've taken all the eye catching ideas (like Jeremy Corbyn doing Gogglebox etc), which shits all over legacy pissing on crap like the Love Actually Update.

Oh I think I'm thinking of Comic Relief.

Apparently it was this UNFORGETTABLE CLASSIC

I have literally no memory of that Jess Glynne song being the CiN single, if I was ever aware of this.

I think the Jess Glynne one was just a fourth-single-from-an-album that they donated the royalties from.

Looking at that list it really seems to be the only tactic that really works.

Well, that and enlisting Emma Bunton to improve a sixties standard. :disco:

I heard the reason for this one was because the Eva Cassidy version of Fields of Gold was Terry Wogan’s favourite song. Still, Melua doing Sting is almost the definition of boring.

Because what we needed is another coma-inducing version of this song. Fuck Melua, fuck Cassidy and fuck Wogan!

It's like someone looked up "beige" in the dictionary, read the entry twice over and thought..."no, I just don't think that nails it."

Nobody is forced to buy this song if they don't like it.

It would be a nice idea to have a song that people might actually WANT to buy though, wouldn't it?

What a ridiculous thing to say.

No more music opinions allowed unless you are forced to buy the music.

Katie Melua once held a knife to my throat and forced me to stream Nine Million Bicycles so actually you’re very wrong.

    THAT’S A FACT.
