"Song that will define a generation" wasn't it...?
at least we got LAFS pt 57
It all comes from her though, doesn't it. She's the one who's hyping everything up to the high heavens.
And now she's directing her own videos. If that isn't a sign of a spectacular case of hubris, I don't know what is.
So she IS to blame then?
MOVIE BUFF FAIL
Imagine if Kylie had done a load of pre-X interviews claiming that 'Wow' was musical heroin that would redefine a generation.
Yeah but Kylie doesn't even write her own songs, what has SHE got to feel proud of?
I keep hearing SE-B doing the AH OH AH OH AH OH AH OH bits during the "king with no crown" bits.
Having the humility to know her limits and farm her songwriting out to people with more than ONE IDEA? (occasionally)
Ga-Ga-ooh-la-laa, Ju-daa, Ju-da-aaaah
It's her CATCHPHRASE vor
As I've said in another thread, maybe the template is DELIBERATE?
You say tomato, I say ARROGANT ONE TRICK PONY
That's fine, but she can only get away with it for so long, especially if she keeps ridiculously overselling herself.
She really is like a one woman 2 Unlimited at the moment. At least Anita and whatsisface didn't go around claiming they were redefining pop culture as we know it.
I don't know to be honest. Telephone and Born This Way both deviated from that 'template' and frankly look at the latter - all of the fans were calling for her to put another RedOne club-pop song out there. Which she did.
BTW deviated from the formula, but it was utterly weak.
Judas reverts to the formula - and it's utterly weak.
At least varying the ways in which she is being utterly underwhelming.
If Judas was Bad Romance to the power of ten I could get on board. But it's more like Bad Romance to the power of 0.4
I still disagree that there was anything 'weak' about Born This Way and the general response to it has to be the most bewildering thing in pop music over the last year or so. It's fucking fantastic.
good grief, you "internet gays" need to stop stressing!
*simoncowell* gaga, I like you, but you are like marmite *simoncowell*
sorry, ain't no other way, dixie, we were born that way
SERIOUSLY. How much of her ENTIRE CATALOGUE follows the Pokerface/Bad Romance/Judas template as CLOSELY as that triumvirate? Its barely as much as people think.
VOR, don't you even TRY to U-TURN on us when the album DROPS, cos I'll 'MEMBA. NOT HAVING IT
True true. She is massively arrogant, but considering she's single-handedly managed to get the WOMEN of POP to collectively raise their A-GAMES, I'mma give her a little credit.
What overrides all of that for me, is that I think back to what she's always said - that she is the biggest student of fame, celebrity and music. And I truly believe that she's taking an academic approach to her career, not only with her visuals, fan-relationship or approach to the media - but even with the music. HENCE the template. HENCE blowing her own trumpet.
If she manages to avoid a slump with this album, I'll credit it as a SUCCESS and wait for the DEVIATION from the template NEXT TIME.
*sigh* With all that analysis, my Slave moment is well and truly over. *grabs a chair*
were they really? Not according to most of the internet from where I'M LOOKING
God that all sounds SO JOYLESS. No wonder I can't warm to her.
Also I don't know how many other pop divas have really raised their game because of GaGa. At best she ushered in the RedOne sound and brought Europop to the US charts. Beyond that...
At least I could distinguish all 2 Unlimited singles and videos
Seems like she is more Ace Of Base than Abba anyway.
Well I don't know where you're looking (or rather choosing not to look) but the great majority including several people on here were angling for another Bad Romance. There's no denying that. As soon as we had a premiere date it was constant talk about whether it was going to live up to Bad Romance, whether it would be as hooky as Bad Romance, would it be a stomper just like Bad Romance, blah blah. Well she didn't do that and people weren't happy, and then with Judas she's revisited that template and people still aren't happy. It's lose-lose.
Maybe because both attempts are lacking??? I mean every song will have someone who likes it but the majority disliked Born This Way and by the looks of it the same is happening to Judas.
It would have been a win situation had she released something worthy.
Yes, the fans wanted something that was AS GOOD as Bad Romance. I'm not sure that means they wanted something that sounds THE SAME as Bad Romance, though.
I took what most people were saying to mean that they wanted another typical RedOne/Gaga club stomper in the same VAIN as Bad Romance.
Anybody expecting anything as great as Bad Romance was surely being naive. That's a once in a career sort of song.
I think for me, aside from the annoying recycled ideas, what really strikes me about Judas and Born This Way is how unengaged she sounds on them.
She properly snarls and struts her way through Bad Romance, it really is a behemoth of a pop song. Maybe it's just the fact that the chorus is so tinny and dull, but on Judas she actually sounds quite bored.
I don't know how anybody could call her Born This Way vocal 'unengaged' (disengaged surely?) - she has NEVER sounded more passionate on record.
I don't think she sounds bored at all on "Judas"
She sounds much more on autopilot on material like the fluff on The Fame.
It's already down down to #10 on itunes, so will this week be it's peak? The video will catapult the song back up the charts but if anything like BTW, not to #1
When will the video be released?
Apparently this weekend, but I've not seen anything official.
Everything is coming together swimmingly
Well she's likely to come over to the UK to promote more near the album's release so maybe it will get a new peak then. But yeah, UK #1 isn't looking very likely right now considering how BTW went.
God sucks confirmed.
