I think overall Lust for Life has overtaken this as my favorite Lana album, but they really aren't comparable, and when I'm in the mood, nothing really can top this LANGUID MASTERPIECE (it also works better as a body than its individual parts):

    09 Cruel World
    10 Ultraviolence
    09 Shades of Cool
    10 Brooklyn Baby
    10 West Coast
    10 Sad Girl
    07 Pretty When You Cry
    07 Money Power Glory
06 Fucked My Way Up to the Top
    10 Old Money
    06 The Other Woman

    10 Black Beauty
    06 Guns and Roses
    10 Florida Kilos
    09 Is This Happiness
    09 Flipside

Never got into it and got tired of trying. Can't remember anything past West Coast (10/10).

The "Hook N Sling Remix" of "Ultraviolence" is LIFE ITSELF - particularly this bit

He used to call me poison
    Like I was poison ivy
I could have died right then...
Cause he was right beside me

    Jim raised me up
He hurt me but it felt like true love
    Jim taught me that
    Loving him was never enough

(only the radio edit appears to be on YouTube)

I'm having a MOMENT to "West Coast" currently. It was such a pivot from her normal style yet works so well in the context of the album. The squelching synth that kicks around 3:20 and doesn't back out till the end makes me lose my shit.

I can see my baby swinging
His parliament's on fire and his hands are up
On the balcony and I'm SINGIN
MOVE BABY MOVE BABY I'M IN LOVE :disco:

I played this from start to finish in bed this morning and it was heavenly.

I can't play it from start to finish unless I am in THAT sort of place but when I am, it is HEAVEN AND HELL and everything in between.

OK, I'll try again but there was just something I couldn't get into about this album and I've never been quite sure what it is.

I've just had my favourite ever experience listening to this album. For years I thought it was good but patchy, and I only cherry picked. I think I resented it for a while for not being as pop as Born To Die.

    09 Cruel World
    08 Ultraviolence
    08 Shades of Cool
    09 Brooklyn Baby
    10 West Coast
    09 Sad Girl
    07 Pretty When You Cry
    07 Money Power Glory
06 Fucked My Way Up to The Top
    10 Old Money
    06 The Other Woman

If I have one critique it's that the first five songs seem to belong to a different album, being more experimental sonically and more interesting lyrically than the back half of the album, which is five straight songs about being a sad bad girl/whore.
