What an utterly bizarre song/pop artist.

The video appears to be some kind of online HOLY GRAIL. I've never seen it on youtube, despite her two much lesser hits both being freely available.

I most certainly do love the madness of it all when the nun has just been shorn. (?!?)

    YES

    CLASSIC

How i remember her whoring her wares around all the studio-based Kids TV shows. They were happier times, when a flopstar could actually have three singles AND when there was actually live kids tv.

I quite like how the lyrics had no relevance to the target audience whatsoever. When your baby's just been born, don't you just hate the madness of it all? Oh TELL ME ABOUT IT LEILANI

I wonder what she's doing with her life now. For a short while i thought she had reinvented herself as page 3 girl Leilani who did the reality rounds a few years back, but she was just some young pretender.

Oh my, i've just realised something. When she says "sucking on a Curly Wurly", she actually means "sucking on another Man's penis" doesn't she?

It all makes sense to me now.

Do You Want Me is shit, but I have a soft spot for Flying Elvis.

I'd love to know what people thought her market was. She was just SO WEIRD. Maybe she was some kind of tax write off.

I bet Robotboy worked with her and/or knows her personally.

It was before his time wasn't it? Or maybe he's much older than i imagine him to be.

In a great twist, this thread is already the TOP GOOGLE RESULT for "Leilani Madness Thing". I hope Leilani logs on and tells us about it all if she ever googles herself again.

I remember somebody on Popjustice claimed to have a copy of Leilani's tragically shelved album. He confirmed it to be "quite mental".

    Hi VoR

Could you please elaborate this? I seem to remember reading about this but I couldn't understand why would record companies THROW away money like this singing random people, releasing singles, shooting videos and actually recording albums??
I mean, I'm sure Steps started this way but eventually people liked them and they sold records but what was the point of this, or Marvin and Tamara?

Utterly BRILLIANT. Especially when she had a go at Meg Matthews for nicking her parking space.

Well I'm not sure how true it is, but there were persistant rumours that Louis Walsh signed hapless Irish girl group Bellefire, and kept them on the books for years despite a complete lack of success, as a tax write-off. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, if at all, but the idea amuses me greatly.

I can only assume that you keep them on the books, put no effort whatsoever into promoting them and then deduct the expenses from taxable income as if it was a proper artist, resulting in an overall saving. Is anyone here an accountant? We could ask them.

I have her first two SMASH HITS on CD Single. :disco: I have nothing else to report other than I used to pretend to suck on a Curly Wurly when I performed it for my FANZ.

That was me. I still have it. It's off the scale on mentalness, including a song called "Snail"

I can put it in Leilani's air hostess trolley if you like, if someone could PM me where it is...

A bizarre Leilani-related thing happened to me this week

I was sitting at work having lunch and my friend was talking about the hen night she was throwing for her friend Leilani this weekend. And then she said, WE'RE ALL WEARING GOGGLES, because that's what she used to wear when she was a popstar.

So I find out I am now two-degrees from Leilani the week I see this topic on Moopy

    She works in a gym.

Apparently in the last 8 years she's made about £13k in royalties :disco:

    OK.

She apparently hated the whole thing. I asked whether she might have enjoyed it more if she had been successful, but I got told not to be such a bitch.

And I suppose this goes some way to providing an answer to how ropey old pop stars make a living after they've been dropped. If Leilani can make £13k, then surely LSL must have made a fair bit more.

This is the pop equivalent of a lost Shakespeare play. And to think we were so close.

I'm here! I haven't been away, just that I'm more of a lurker than a poster.

So if someone can PM me where in the aircraft Leilani's trolley is, I'll put it there! :-)

Sadly, the video for 'Madness Thing' has not appeared on YouTube yet, but a TOTP performance of the song was uploaded within the last month:

I still (sort of) remember the feeling of utter deflation upon listening to Mark Goodier recapping that weeks' charts and saying, "New at 40, Leilani, with "Do you want me?". I loved that song. :(

I've got lots of other shit 90s/00s pop too...
