I was stood next to her for the entire duration of Janelle Monae's Roundhouse gig, which she spent most of the time not watching because she was either a) looking for someone for the ENTIRE gig, or b) she wanted people to notice her.

She had a terrible haircut and looked really frumpy in a Mumsy kind of way.

I think the problem was that she had some brilliant songs on the album, but she really is NOT a popstar. There's no presence there - it's like the album was recorded by Rachel Stevens' cadaver.

Is she coming back? I hope not, on the condition that she gives her (surely wonderful) second album to Kylie to record. I doubt even rubbish old Stuart Price could fuck it up.

And OT: are we getting a La Roux comeback this year? I do hope so.

She'll make a great songwriter one day (Louis Walsh: "You remind me of a young Cathy Dennis!") but she's most definitely NOT a popstar.

Looks like she is coming back then. I'm not too sure what to make of that - a darker sound could work but I don't see her as a particularly 'dark' artist.

As Samuel says, she'll make a great songwriter, but as a popstar in her own right it's probably not the right thing for her. She has ZERO personality and her voice is fairly average.

Last I heard she was going italo-disco. She's out in France at the moment working with someone whose name has escaped me.

I love the first album so I'm pleased for a return, though I totally know what people are saying about her not being a popstar.

A 16 track demo album has leaked. I can't find it ANYWHERE. Is there the slimmest chance anyone's came across it yet?

Poor Victoria. There comes a point when apparently rotten luck finally manifests itself as pure incompetence though :D

I physically can’t hear about Pledge Music without thinking of Harpic Records

Pledge is such a weird word, especially for a furniture polish or whatever it was

Echoes sounds really familiar. I don't know where from as it wasn't in the post-Hands recordings mass demo leakage.

Debut period Little Boots may not have been the most natural world conquering popstar but she had some marvellous tunes back then (though to be fair both her other albums are very good - it is the odds and ends that are a bit more hit and miss). I used to quite obsessively seek out all the remixes and covers she did.

I was going to say I thought PledgeMusic went down the drain after they were found out to be a bunch of unscrupulous scoundrels then I saw this is on Kickstarter. Not sure I like the words Catch 22 (Vinyl exclusive) but I shall bite for the CD anyway.

FIVE WHOLE POUNDS to ship a CD to the UK though. I was unimpressed enough with £4 for the Shakespears Sister EP.

£40 for a vinyl album is annoying enough!

How DID she end up working with him? Wasn't it BECAUSE of a major label?

Nice that they added Catch 22, Not Now and Magical to the bonus CD. Love Kills would have been good as well but maybe there would have been licensing cost issues for that.

Well apparently there were a 'few' remaining copies left and I ordered one.. It does look BEAUTIFUL and there's a bonus disc, but I still don't think it's worth the £40.

This will probably be my last vinyl SPLURGE for a while.. :shy:
