I wonder if the office of Deputy PM will be retained.

Who is USELESS but they are OBLIGED to USE for such a role as Deputy PM?

It has kind of become standard since the 1990s.

William Hill have paid my £150 winnings into my account. I'd rather have an extra 30 Lib Dem MPs but it's a small consolation.

We had our 20s under Labour. In fact the first 12 years of my adulthood were.

Whereas i'm exactly 10 years younger than you. Ten years of Tories at this crucial point in my life MAY INDEED shape my entire future.

    Thanks old people.

I had the Conservatives for ALL OF MY CHILDHOOD. By the time I was 11, I KNEW I hated them. It always seemed to be intrinsic.

Sadly, Labour were around only when it didn't matter to such a great deal to me. Age 7 to 20.

Do you think it'll end there?

No matter what the fuckuppery over the next five years, Boris is destined for a 2020 landslide.

God did I want to punch a guy at school who sang that line from Kool And The Gang's Celebration when it was found out that it had been a majority. :manson:

He's got it from his parents apparently.

When he started going on about how 'brilliant' Margaret Thatcher was I put my fingers in my ears.

Probably the fact that I didn't like him AT ALL anyway helped. Two of my closest friends voted Tory.

That really is one BEAUTIFUL thing about living in Scotland. Even though there are SOME Tory voters, no-one dare make it public... never mind GLOAT.

I did say earlier I can't see the Tories going away until the economy looks really decent and I see that's AT LEAST a decade away.

Having said that I'm not Boris WILL get the win.

@David_Cameron: I have re-appointed George Osborne as Chancellor of the Exchequer. He will also be First Secretary of State - the ranking Cabinet Minister.

Good god, the final result is horrific. 331 seats and 51% Tory?! Reasons to be suicidal.

I feel your pain lolly. York always looks pretty similar.

Anyway, York council went from Labour to NOC as expected. Conservatives, Greens and even the Lib Dems all gained seats.

Cameron has less of a majority than Major did and, with erosions due to defections and bi-elections, ended up as a minority government by 1996. I DOUBT this could happen again, but who knows.

The Tories will certainly be more exposed this time, with no Lib Dems to BLAME and I can't wait. However they do have an awesome contingency plan with the change of leader.

If it's not nationalism it's sectarianism.

Brighton & Hove are yet to declare but the Lib Dems haven't done nearly as badly in the council elections as in the general election - they've lost half their councils but only a third of their seats, a solid if disappointing base to start rebuilding from.

UKIP have gone from 17 seats to 130 - I expect most of those will have come from Labour than the Tories.

Well this thread was a good read. Despite my disappointment with the result.
