Fucking hell - I've just seen a spreadsheet of the results on Thursday. The numbers Labour are up against to win a majority in 2020 are nasty. Labour need an 8.6% swing to get just to a majority of 1. Getting to a majority in double figures needs Labour to be winning Canterbury and Chingford & Wood Green (that's IDS's seat) from the Tories.

I remember reading about him in Private Eye around the time he'd just become an MP, and apparently he was quite horrible to Commons staff or something (I can't recall the details now, in true MP style :()

Baroness Stowell of Beeston's promotion means the UK has its first cabinet member called Tina.

More on Amber, who on first impressions doesn't sound like a complete cretin.

John fucking Whittingdale is in (he's a local MP) as Culture. A pretty vile bunch is blossoming.

He's the logical choice. He was Shadowing Danny Alexander. I hope he doesn't remain there once a leader is elected.

I think we need a post election discussion thread.

It's mainly because of the seats Labour lost to the SNP - 40 formerly safe seats, now all but 7 of them have majorities of over 10,000.

What an odd time to resign. You'd think he'd have waited until after the leadership election.

Apparently Eric Pickles has been DROPPED, although not from a great height as there haven't been reports of an earthquake in the south east of England.

It's a new Tory policy that silver linings will be scrapped. Law to be applied retrospectively.

In addition to this, George Galloway is challenging the Bradford West result (he lost by over 10,000 votes) and thinks that South Thanet election was rigged too to keep Farage out.

And Ed Miliband's gone to Ibiza.

Two brothers in government for the first time since the Milibands. The eldest has clear leadership ambition and widely expected to succeed, and the youngest is well liked in the back office and quietly productive, working his way through the ranks.

They're going to make Ros Altmann a peer and Pensions Minister.

Most people won't be aware of her, but she's the classic case of someone with a bee in her bonnet.

    I find this awful news.

David Miliband has slated Ed's campaign. The fallout from this election has been HUGE. Bigger than I realised/ anticipated, for what in some ways is basically an incumbent victory. He has naturally ruled himself out of the leadership race.

Definitely, the whole adversarial, black-and-white language of political debate is so frustrating and freezes out a lot of people, especially speaking as a noted imbecile.

Facebook is never a particularly edifying place for any form of political debate, whether it's involving hand-wringing middle-class champagne socialists or the blinkered, "aspirational" right wondering where their taxpayers' money is going. The solution is obviously universal, involuntary euthanasia.

Maybe the left are bad losers, but it's more about the fear a full on Tory government brings. The new equalities minister voted gay marriage. The new justice secretary suggested bringing back hanging (admittedly 20 years ago). I think people are rational in their responses, although need to wait a while, organise and react accordingly.

    !?

If anything, I think the reason I feel so disillusioned with the left at the moment is the STOP FUCKING HATE style sensationalism about anything to do with the right.
