WHY DO THAT?
It's hardly the CATFORD CAT
We've got a few shops with things like that, but nothing so huge!
It's BRILLIANT! I used to LOVE IT as a little kid. Something to get excited about when travelling through London. That and the bizarre giant cuckoo clock type affair in Lewisham shopping centre. I wouldn't know where to start to look for it...
That Catherdral isn't real.
it's an ARTISTS IMPRESSION
They could have got a better artist. I only guessed it was a Catherdral. For all I know, it could have been a baby ox.
I used to get off there when I was at uni. I hated the area, so grey and depressing
I wish they could work out a way to build crossrail without destroying the Astoria.
I for one think it's a GOOD THING.
I love skyscrapers, I actually have been following the new constructions in London on a skyscraper forum, which is a forum for anyone with urbanistic interests.
Most of the new talls for London are quite impressive, I think it's about time it had a more impressive skyline. Havent been there in about 10 years but looking forward to going there in a few years.
Ooh but look what I found in Japan
They're taking over! That was outside Roppongi Hills in Tokyo about 3 weeks ago
theyll only MOVE GAY though... not KILL it sadly
Catford Cat has nothing on the Headington Shark!
YOU MIGHT SAY THAT
ewww, what were you doing there?
being a tourist :p .. it was my first day, a couple of guys from the Japanese office took me on a wee trip around Tokyo, and Roppongi was on the list. We went to the top of that big skyscraper there to look off the observation deck.
Why, don't you like it?
SLOUGH and MAIDENHEAD are getting tube stops? Bloody hell
If they extend the tube to Colchester, I don't think I'll bother leaving.
THEY REALLY SHOULD
Oh and why do they NEED to destroy the Astoria?
They say they can't extend the ticket hall of Tottenham Court Road station without doing it.
It is titchy at present and one of the most central stations.
Oh well! NO BIG LOSS!
I'd rather they'd knock down Centrepoint.
I like Centrepoint. One of the better looking 60s efforts.
I like Centrepoint too because it's BIG
I like it as a point of reference. As a building I'm not overly fond, but there are far worse.
It's got more character than most of the bland 60s HORROR SHOWS. Plus it has various stories behind it, which adds to an element of interest...
I can't stand it. Far too big. And the way it forces you to walk in bus lanes to get around it.
I love the way it almost looks SQUEEZED IN, as if it was an AFTER THOUGHT
Oh look, there's a GAP. Shall we shove in a great big motherfucking office block for no reason whatsoever?
I remember being when I first arrived in the West End. You just don't expect a mini skyscraper THERE
i HATE tottenham court road.
Some mockups of the London Bridge Tower, which will be the tallest tower in Europe and one of the tallest in the world when it is completed in 2011
They start construction in the next couple of months!
I'd only seen more basic pictures of what essentially looked like a shiny version of Cleopatra's Needle. It looks better in more detail
When is it DUE for completion.
2012 is in four years and I doubt the skyline is gonna look like the first few piccies in this topic...
I said, 2011! In time for Olympics
They've ACTUALLY started work on it!! And the Pinnacle! Not sure about the others...
I had a FLU-EY dream last night about the London Skyline! It was most creepy...
yeah I'm assuming some of those in that first WONDERFUL skyline I posted must be a way off. I know the plan is to update Canary Wharf by 2018, so that SWARM of new Skyscrapers over there must be post-Olympics
The CITY, on the other hand, that are getting all the crazy nicknamed ones, are well up and running. They've either STARTED, or are in the process of demolishing whatever stands in the way
Plus Vauxhall is growing so quickly I imagine those skyscrapers on the far left will be next to go up.
I can't even PICTURE Vauxhall as it IS now... If it's HOW I suspect it looks then I can't imagine a TON of SKYSCRAPERS
How long ago did you see it
It looks like a small canary wharf... everything by the riverside is glass and steel
Only when you go under the arches does it look distinctly south london again, with its small council blocks and old corner pubs
I visualise it as arches and general scuzzy old school London...
