Wonder how he'll fare in a world and social media environment that's a lot more WOKE than a decade ago...

It does all feel RATHER familiar, agreed.

I do hope it means Summer Heights High's going on Netflix too though. A masterpiece.

Calling the programme "Lunatics" suggests he doesn't give a flying toss.

He's already catching a lot of online heat for another apparent blackface character (the psychic).

I think she's Rachel Dolezal inspired. But yeah, still dicey enough.

I think it'll get a similar reception to the airport-based show that Little Britain did.

I actually watched that the other day while I was in labour (you're supposed to do something that makes you laugh) and was thinking how you'd never get away with some of the jokes anymore.

Little Britain, or Come Fly With Me? Although they are both pretty much the same in terms of their place in the current climate.

"Come Fly With Me" - I couldn't remember the title of it. I watched about 10 minutes of one episode on Netflix a couple of years ago and couldn't bear to go any further.

It's a wonder Baby Dannii isn't still in there based on what I saw...

Come Fly With Me was pretty dire on the whole, but I do still have a soft spot for Moses and WishWings (if you'll pardon the pun) - though having said that it was yet another blackface character in a series that had about a dozen of them :o

So has ANYBODY bothered with this? I’ve seen shockingly little conversation about it online.

I find it more of an awkward social character exercise than a comedy...a lot of it just doesn’t have any jokes.

I don’t mind the shop man and South African dog whisperer, that is certainly the softer material and closest to previous stuff.

I’ve found some of the 7ft twin stuff genuinely upsetting - I’m not sure how it’s supposed to be comedic? I find it oddly engaging though, some of it is a bit TOO REAL.

I fast forward through the 14 year old boy stuff as it seems HORRENDOUS.

The former porn star is very uncomfortable as it just seems extremely mean spirited to parody somebody with mental health problems. That said the scene where they explain what they do on different days of the week was quite amusing.

The fat-bummed real estate guy is again odd, as it seems to be a comment on Australian bro-culture/toxic males which in many ways is quite well realised, but it’s just not FUNNY.

In all a VERY strange show, and would have been better slimming it right down to 3 characters (Shop/Pet Whisperer/7ft twin) rather than 6.

I've watched them all because I've been at my parents and bored, I did keep watching, but not really sure why, it was very rarely funny, is it meant to be funny? Didn't really hit the tragi-comedy note as none of the characters had enough depth or realism. The stuff with the lord was of Gayhurst was unwatchable, and some story lines felt bizarre/unnecessary like the trans dog, it wasn't really commenting or satirizing anything, it just sort of sat on the fence, and felt a bit pointless.

It was all a bit lazy considering the budget and creative freedom Netflix must've afforded him.

After FINALLY watching Ja'mie last month and LOVING it, I watched the first episode earlier this evening. I lasted 15 minutes. The worst TV show I have seen in YEARS. Not even so-bad it's good, embarrassingly AWFUL, and uncomfortable. It's been a complete and utter disaster for Chris Lilley, and rightly so. What a way to fuck up your career. WHO signed this show off? It's not funny in the slightest and why does he INSIST on playing 13-year old children?

Btw, that Jamie series is supposed to be funny, but I found it disturbing.

I haven’t no, as I said, I only recently watched Ja’mie after catching an iPlayer ad for it, and remembering I had totally forgotten to watch it first time around. I didn’t particularly find Jonah all that funny in Summer Heights High, so decided to give that show a miss, but I may give Angry Boys a go, as he was still producing good stuff at that time.

I found Ja’mie hilarious but I do see how it could come across as disturbing. It seems he’s becoming more and more outrageous with each show, and I think he’s crossed the line now.

We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High were fantastic shows, they had the right balance of ridiculousness and dark humour but it seems he is just being controversial for the sake of it now. The show has been universally panned and he’s publicly said he doesn’t give a shit. I don’t think Netflix are likely to give him another series though.
