I'm a real Madonna virgin, the only thing of hers I actually have is GHV2, and that's really only cos I LOVE Frozen. However I actually had a bit of a listen to it and The Power Of Goodbye is really lovely.

I know there are some real Madge experts on here and so was wondering if she had any other tracks in the vein of POG and Frozen, I assume just on the Ray Of Light album. However I'm not really that keen on Vogue, Music, Holiday, Ma Isla Bonita and her other hits so I'm not sure whether to actually invest looking any further.

Anyway for now let's APPRECIATE The Power Of Goodbye.

Well since you like Madge's ballads you can't go wrong with Something to Remember - a collection of ballads she released in 1995. It contains the likes of "You'll See", "Live to Tell", "Crazy for You", "Take a Bow" and some other hidden gems like her wonderful version of "I Want You" and "Oh Father," kidnapped from Like a Prayer and sitting perhaps a little awkwardly in the compilation.

Ray of Light itself also boasts a number of lovely midtempo tracks in the vein of the two you mentioned, like "To Have and Not to Hold", but the upbeat tracks are also quite good.

As the OFFICIAL Moopy "Power of Goodbye" fan club leader, I would agree with Suedey on this one. "Ray Of Light", especially as it goes for a fiver in most sales these days, is UTTERLY essential to ANY collection

If you want to do some downloading though, Id go for the following "slow (ish) ies"

    I Want You
    Paradise (Not For Me)
To Have And Not To Hold

Oh FUCK it, just get em ALL....

I'll say here that I prefer the demo version of "Power of Goodbye" to the finished result. Her vocal is more fragile and seems more heartfelt. Also the scrapped "Walk away..." bit is fantastic and makes much more sense to me than "Do you wanna go higherrrrrr?"

I love the demo version but I think overall I prefer the finished product. Both are excellent but I just like the plinkety Orbit stylings on the finished version that little bit more. That bit at the start which sounds wonderfully like it is in the video (with the camera scanning the beach) is just magical...

Is there a site still hosting the demos and unreleased stuff? I had a deletion frenzy a while back and got rids of lots I shouldn't have.

In my opinion, the video for 'Power Of Goodbye' is the most beautiful she has ever, EVER looked.....

There's the Madonnahub (which I myself don't use) that hosts loads of Madge stuff. I got the "Power of Goodbye" demo ages ago from the now-defunct MadonnaPower, but I'd imagine it's easy to get hold of through WinMX, Kazaa, etc.?

Otherwise I could e-mail it to ya.

Certainly one of my favourites. It's usually the slowies that do it for me; this, "Drowned World", "What It Feels Like...", "Bad Girl", "Playground", you know the ones.

She looks lovely in that video but I think she looks her best ever in "I Want You." :horny:

I'll try the Madonnahub first. My e-mail doesn't like anything bigger than about four words at the moment, for some unknown reason, but thanks for the offer.

Yeah, production-wise Orbit did a wonderful job with it. The whole "Frozen", "Power of Goodbye", "To Have and not to Hold" triplet from Ray of Light is really wonderfully sequenced and produced.

    Do tell!

I've nearly got all the tour mp3's now, save for a few... The voice is in great shape. I hope she stays on form for the European leg.

Oh, I agree! "Shanti" is a fine album track and its transition into "Frozen" is fantastic.

Fabtastic! Some people on the Madge forums suggest that she sounds a bit like good ol' Debbie Harry on "Burning Up." I s'pose there is a vague similarity there. I'm on FIRE :horny:

If you haven't got all the mp3's, try and resist. You'd be surprised with a few songs' arrangements.

It doesnt sound like there is too much miming- I reckon "Vogue" is over a pre-recorded vocal, but maybe Im wrong...

Yeah, those two divide everyone. I like the "American Life" arrangement, but her voice is off. "Mother and Father" I adore. Both have strong visuals in the show.

I think the mimed bits are "Nobody Knows Me" (but it could just be the vocoder) and she obviously raps along to a backing track in "American Life." I'm fairly certain "Vogue" is live. The rest is all live.

My only beef so far is with the somewhat underwhelming costumes, but I've not seen the show yet so I can't judge. And, really, not everything has to be a cone bra.

Some of the costumes look a bit "samey" to me, actually...

But we shall see on the night. Oh im SO excited...

There's talk of filming the Portugal show for the DVD. Great. Another Drowned World Tour, with her looking skeletal and sounding hoarse. But on the other hand, anything is better than another American audience I s'pose. The Detroit crowd was :manson:

Well they are filming a US show as well for TV - knowing her, she'll want to save costs and just use that ! :D

DISTINCTLY underwhelmed with the version of "Holiday"- certainly not the ending to the show I was hoping for...

Other than that though, its pretty fucking ace, isnt it ?

I started paying more attention to Madonna when Ray Of Light was released, I loved all of the singles and was this close to buying the album.

'Ray of Light' is a great album.... although I would actually say that 'Power of Goodbye' is one of the weakest tracks on there

This is the Madonna Dot Refugees forum. Not all the MP3's are available yet, but these are the best quality I've heard so far.

It is possible that you'd hate them, though, and feel vindicated that you didn't get tickets?

Anyway, I'd suggest you don't download "Burning Up". It's fierce. :horny:
