'Mama', for me, is one of the Spice Girls' absolute best songs. There's something so gentle and lovely about it, the subject matter is hugely original for a pop song and the Girls' vocals are really well produced.

I also particularly love the flute riff after the chorus, and the "me lovin' you, you lovin' me" interplay between Bunton and Mel B is just gorgeous, one of my favourite moments in the entire Spice catalogue.

The video is wonderful to boot, with the Girls' mums clearly enjoying their moment to shine. The Spice Mums were actually approached for a Morrisons advert around this time, an offer they wisely declined.

Of course, the song took on a new context in the Return of the Spice Girls tour, with four of the band sprogged up (a broody Melanie C completed the set by getting preggers weeks after the tour finished).

Were you inspired to create this after seeing the thread for the film of the same name? :D

I was about to rate this 2, thinking it was a re-post about the new movie Mama. Thank heavens I didn't.

I can see why people with no soul find it too whimsical and a bit naff. I love it though. It's a sweet little song, albeit one I can't imagine ever being played in public.

I've really come around to it in recent years. It's actually lovely.

Welling up to this was one of the few moments from the RTOTSG concert I remember having drank a full bottle of blagged wine on top of other drinks along the way. It's so seeped in nostalgia, but its only recently became apparent to me just how gorgeous parts are (the pre-chorus in particular is beautiful songwriting). I was watching Mel Beh get emotional at the very end of last year's documentary earlier, so am rather caught up with their sloppy side right now.

This. As a youngen I wasn't fussed, but it truly is lovely, especially the pre-chorus and ad libs.

Not one I'd ever really break out though.

The lyrics mean that it will never be a 10/10 moment for me, but the melody is lovely

I didn't used to rate it, but now I love it. It's gorgeous. It was the highlight of ROTSG for me

Her BASS vibes even put TLC's T-BOZ TO SHAME. :disco:
I even remember a TLC interview back in '96 where she mentioned B kinda "channeling her".

    Yeah, I agree with this.

Oh, and the pre-chorus is my least favourite part.

First song I remember. I was super young then, and like, if I told you how young, you might not believe me, but I swear I just have good memory.

Um, just look at the age in my profile and think of when this song was released.

I used to not be bothered by it and then I really loved it. Now I think it's one of the best songs off the first album and definitely deserved to be released.

Like the song, but always seemed a bit of a side-bar to WDYTYA and had that novelty feel about it

The performance on ROTSG made me appreciate it more though

I only discovered a few weeks ago that Victoria is the one backing up the last lines in the verses.

It's really not that good, isn't it?

In the same of things though, it's still getting an 8/10.
