That's what you call a decent sale figure!
That MUST be an all time record by a COUNTRY MILE, mustn't it ?
I think it is. I'm sure Sex And The City had the record and that was something like 1.5m. If it was even that much.
WHAT ARE THE BLURAY SALES?
also, apparently its first day sales were 1,669,084. Or at least I think that's what it says (it's a French site, perfectly safe for work)
Yeah, exactly what it says Robbie...and little else that we don't already know or haven't spoken of in here
Woah, that is a crazy number of sales!
oh that is just RIDIC
I'm fairly sure it would've sold more had it not sold out pretty much everywhere as well.
I think that's the first time I've ever seen a movie continuously run at my cineworld until (and beyond) its DVD release
Why is everyone saying this?
I'm just going by experience. I live in a small town, mind. But all the places that had it going fairly cheap had totally sold out by about Thursday or Friday.
Places like WHSmith that had it going for £14.99 however, were not sold out. Because people would rather just wait to see if Tesco get in more copies while it's still £7.99 in there.
I reckon that's the small town factor then. I went shopping in Kingston on Saturday. HMV had full shelves stacked at the front of every edition, WH Smith had them - I went to Woolies but it was so crowded I couldn't get to the DVDs and walked out. Sainsburys had them though and Tesco had loads last Monday. All that and I'm still trying to find the Iron Man Special Edition for under £17. It's £14 at the very least at CD WOW.
It's not JUST small town, Ellie. Star said that the two shops she tried on Monday had both sold out. As late as Thursday I went into a Morrisons here that had a display which was fully stocked at around 8.30am and then was sold out when I went back at about 4pm.
I've never seen a Morrisons in my LIFE!
Should have asked us South Londoners with better taste, cos Mamma Mia copies are stocked to the ceilings over here :p
Mamma Mia was £7 in my local Morrissons, it was next to Take That's new album for £6.99. I had to do a double take and then buy them for my er, mother, for her birthday.
Wow, that's more than most of the all time best selling albums in one week.
And it's STILL sold out in the Morrisons where I work here today
I just did a store finder. No wonder I've never seen one. It's 8.5 miles to the nearest one.
We didn't have one here (or anywhere NEAR here, I don't think) until they took over Safeway. And we only had one of those. Now they have built two new ones both on the outer fringes of the city.
There's one in Acton which is near me but I've never been. Why leave Chiswick except to go towards town?
Acton is the nearest one, then Wimbledon.
only 28,000 - obviously not a big format...
Not had time to see it yet
I have not been able to see Mama Mia yet and I so want to.
I've heard nothing but good reviews...
Hey that is positively cheap. I had a look at it online and this was 12 pounds
I think the special offers are all over now. I've not seen it for less than £11 the last couple of weeks.

Musical film Mamma Mia! has become the UK's biggest-selling DVD of all time, according to official figures. It is the first disc to sell more than five million copies - placing it in one in four UK households. The Abba-themed movie was the number one DVD of 2008, with its closest rival The Dark Knight making 1.5m sales.
The Official Charts Company's (OCC) all-time DVD list of the last decade sees Mamma Mia! surge ahead of previous top seller Pirates of the Caribbean. The Curse of The Black Pearl has sold 4.7 million copies, followed in the third and fourth place by Lord of The Rings: Fellowship of The Ring and The Two Towers. Other top 10 DVD releases of the last 10 years include Bond adventure Casino Royale, The Shawshank Redemption and Gladiator.
Shrek 2 comes in at number 10 and is the best-selling animation DVD during the last decade. Some 12 titles have each sold in excess of three million copies since 1998, when the DVD format was launched in the UK. Mamma Mia! became the fastest-selling DVD when it was released in mid-November, and has continued to sell over the festive period. Martin Talbot, managing director of the OCC, said: "Right from its release, Mamma Mia! has been a record breaker. This latest landmark further underlines the popularity of the movie, which is now officially the British public's favourite DVD of all time," he added. Other releases linked to the film have proved successful, with its soundtrack becoming the biggest-selling compilation of 2008, shifting one million copies.
What has the biggest selling album ever in the UK sold?
Biggest DVD, biggest grossing movie (just ABOUT) .. not too shabby
I think it's Queen (though some of the tallies have been joined together) with something like 5.3 million?
From the OCC today
The first Mamma Mia! movie is officially the biggest selling DVD/Blu-ray of all time, with 5,780,000 Million sold.
I noticed last week there is a new 2 disc 10th anniversary edition out as well. I can see it comfortably hitting 6m before Christmas.
And presumably to the second film will be released on DVD at the end of November or beginning of December.
Holy hell, 10 years?
