I assume there will be a degree of recycling. I mean ABBA's second rate stuff is pretty decent but not to sustain a 90 minute Hollywood film. I wonder if Story of a Heart and other ABBA-adjacent music will get a look-in.

I was about to come in and say what a load of tosh the first film was (especially in hindsight) but if Cher's in SO AM I :disco:

With all the promo Benny has been doing, he's kept very tight lipped about that one, hasn't he?

Even dear Cherilyn could not save this movie from being UTTER ROT. I remember watching the first one on a plane to Korea. I was tempted to open the emergency exit and jump out it was THAT BAD.

I don't know how uber ABBA fans feel about it but as a fairly big fan I was HORRIFIED at the butchering of the songs.

It's terrible. The stage play is so much fun but the film sucks any of the "wink wink, nudge nudge" out of it and has MERLY overemoting and mugging at the camera in the worst way possible.

Of course, if CHER is in it having a bash at "Fernando", I can't really say NO to the sequel...

I'd say it's pretty much 50/50 from what I've seen. Mr L just appreciates it for extending their legacy and introducing them to a new generation again (which I tend to agree with), whereas his best Abba loon mate pretty much despises it and thinks it cheapens their legacy.

Considering the soundtrack was a million seller, I wonder how many people ever actually choose to listen to it? I did see it in charity shops, but no more than similarly big sellers of the same period, I'd say.

The DVD on the other hand seems to be a permanent fixture in every charity shop. But then considering it's on one of the ITV channels seemingly every week, why would you need to own it?

Some of the singing in the movie is the worst I have ever heard on screen. How Pierce Brosnan was cast I don't know.

I think for most of the general public they don't really care, so I don't think it has cheapened their legacy. They are much more renowned than they were back in the day but they were a pop act through and through.

I found a copy of the album sticking out of one of those charity shop "bins" you get, opposite our house, so took it home for a spin. It was one of the few CDs ever I didn't keep- entirely pointless and straight back in said charity bin...

There was an interview with Benny in some (old woman) magazine where he's singing Brosnan's praises as a singer. Apparently it's only the Brits who take Issue with it.

I just hope Cher manages to film her part before her imminent death. How is Cher deathwatch going, @Sheena?

Mamma Mia is objectively rubbish as a film. I've seen it a few times and it's quite fun when drunk; I certainly don't indulge the millions of repeats on ITV2. However I'm with Mr L, in that it extends their legacy. The musical is still going, ABBA Gold is still selling, they're still getting streaming and getting Youtube views and listens. You can take ABBA as a cheesy hen night band (which the film series adds to) or brilliant pop artists, but they still have a very strong legacy.

She's back on her deathbed as of last week :( But don't worry- they'll find a miracle cure in two editions time :disco:

I often wonder what the reason is behind the Cher vendetta the NE seem to have. They’ve been wishing her dead for years now. :D

It's cyclical. She is dying, on death's door, usually with a mystery virus, before finding a miracle cure a few weeks later and the whole process starts again.

Cher being in this might be the best thing that's ever happened to be fair.

I can really hear a Cher version of Fernando. Even if the film is terrible I'm fully on-board for that.

Yes, even though there's a world of difference between her and Frida in many respects, it makes absolute sense.
