I still haven't listened to it yet. I'm planning to sit down with headphones and give it my full attention this weekend. Maybe.

So I went for a run (!) and did the first play in its entirety, then put it on again when I got home.

I like it! It’s very consistent. But I can see why it’s not doing so well. No commercial sounding single, although I do think the songs that have been ‘released’ are not necessarily the most instant.

The comparison with Elusive Chanteuse is really interesting.

I think that album has higher highs - the top six or so are all firmly classic Mariah for me - and the vocals throughout are superb. There's more belting and I love that from Mimi.

But Caution is more cohesive, has a much more focused soundscape and more interesting songwriting. I don't like it quite as much but I'm not even close to being disappointed, I appreciate so much that she's made such an "un-Mariah" album.

Essentially I just love this woman.

Looks like the A No No remix with Cardi and Lil Kim is HAPPENING!! Except MISSY is seemingly involved too :disco: :disco: :disco: I have wanted a Lil Kim collaboration for sooo long.

She's done a nice interview with Pitchfork.

She does not like Almost Home.

    Such a relatable queen!

Almost Home is one of the best things she did post-Mimi album

WHAT A CLUELESS CUNT I bet she goes "My fave songs ever from the last 10 years would be I Stay In Love and Candy Bling" :manson:

It was VERY MUCH a case of “change a word, take a third” - the song was almost complete by the time Disney asked her to record it. I imagine she insisted that it needed some of her input, but I doubt she’d have been able to change much.

Add me to the Almost Home appreciation society. That and 'Beautiful' are the two stand outs for me over the last few years when the hits dried up

What the fuck are Pitchfork doing interviewing her anyway? I knew they'd sold up but clearly they sold out in the doing so.

This could perhaps be seen as trolling, but genuinely I'm not (I'm well aware of the critical acclaim), but is it right that this album didn't chart in the top 10 anywhere other than the US?

And considering she only sold a few thousand there more than Kylie did of Golden in the UK, and that Golden did go top 10 in several other countries, surely Golden outsold it worldwide?

    "Interesting"?

And no-one who actually likes music reads Pitchfork nowadays anyway. It's the NME for weary millennials now.

Is it only me who thinks Caution is a clear standout? It reminds me of Brandy vocally.

I think the first half is a bit dull.

I love the layered “Caution, caution, COR-SHEEUN” bits though.

I get annoyed with her when she bangs on about not being taken seriously as a songwriter and lyricist, then puts songs with not-exactly-deep lyrical content on the album in clear bid to chase a hit or attract a younger audience.
