The narrator is something else. As you might imagine she sounds like someone who would ordinarily be narrating a gardening programme or Rip off Britain but here she is telling us about how Mariah got comfortable enough to confide in Da Brat and how it all kicked off when she started working with Jermaine Dupri.

Wow, the 1996 Grammys footage is something else. Those faces she pulls as she keeps losing in every category. Fuck you Taylor Swift, this is how it's done :disco:

Wasn’t the narrator someone really famous? Sounded like Samantha Bond?

Anyway it was HILARIOUSLY AWFUL and totally focused on all the negative points in her career, while glossing over the major achievements - no mention of the huge 2005 comeback! It linked everything to being a crazy bipolar and featured such credible talking heads as Morgan, Alison and “former boyfriend” Damizza.

I loved all the terrible reconstructions, especially in the recording studio where she kept saying “let’s go JD... hey JD... come on JD” on songs that JD was never involved with. And the verbatim quotes from Rick Sky who was clearly witness to so many private moments in her life!

Oh and I was surprised that Melonie Daniels was such a heavy contributor to the Christmas ‘documentary’ beforehand. Does she still sing with Mariah or have they parted ways?

I love that this post reads as if you've NEVER SEEN OR UNDERSTOOD THE VERY CONCEPT OF CHANNEL 5 BEFORE. :D

Cause seriously, that's a GOOD thing.

I can’t seem to copy the tweet here on my phone, but have we heard the quite brilliant safety announcements she’s recorded for TFL and are being played for Christmas at various tube stations? :D

True, but all you need is one song/book/painting...What an older hit does is allow newer audiences an entry point to investigate the rest of an artist's body of work.

I guess the lambs can celebrate because this song means Mariah will forever be remembered as one of the all-time greats in a way that Madonna sadly just won't.

I could come up with a million reasons why this post is ridiculous, but just aligning yourself with @KindaCool has done the job for me...

All I Want For Christmas Is You is not a novelty hit. It has transcended the gimmicky nature of the genre and entered the pantheon of all time classics. Nothing but facts, hunties.

I love it- I’ve never denied loving it. But it’s a novelty hit by its very nature. “Novelty” doesn’t always mean “bad”.

Who on earth had @Jark down as a music snob...

I agree that novelty doesn't have to be bad, but I can't see as a novelty song at all.

The fact that it's considered a "classic" disqualifies it from being "novel". The whole point of a novelty hit is that it's a gimmick that lasts for 5 seconds and is then never heard from again.

Stop ALIGNING yourself with words you don't know the meaning of. Go hate on someone else. Madonna wishes she had the talent to create something this classic. ItsI no surprise the old bitter cow refused to sing the song in Carpool Karaoke.

i keep thinking they're baiting you (well suomi at least) but then who knows.

i'm truly happy for mariah and i don't think aiwfc is novelty and i despise the whole mariah vs madonna but statements like "madonna wishes she had the talent to make something so classic" need to be checked. madonna has done plenty classic be it through her own artistic talent or her talent to spot others' artistic talent.

Still, the idea of Madonna now attempting a Christmas song doesn’t even crack the top ten of BAD IDEAS she’s had over the last decade.
