Marina and Troye Sivan please
Is she not shacked up with one of CB or somesuch?
Oh good, I know she took time out to study psychology or something so I'm glad she's stopped that nonsense and got back to the day job.
At least there's no expectation this time around. I don't think I can go a 4th round of hoping she gets ANY kind of hit out of it. In 2018 there's no danger of that. Not that I really expected it in 2015 to be fair. It's just I can't think of anyone (who isn't completely obscure anyway) that has had such an incredible range of perfectly commercial pop songs, many solid 10s, with barely any of them getting more than a disinterested shrug from the public/media.
I love every one of her albums, probably my favourite artist of this decade actually. And she is every inch the perfect popstar - stunning, vocally sound and distinguished, captivating, clever.
I've always figured that it's because the bubblegum pop pendulum hasn't swung back round again. I always thought that Carly Rae suffered the same fate.
I'll never forget seeing her at the opening of Dreamland in Margate in 2015 and being so beyond excited, only for Marina to be stood there belting them out to less of a crowd than one of the hot dog stands. One particularly large woman walked past me going, "Who's this bird? Where the fuck's Chas and Dave?"
Well half DEAD now love and that's what you get for shunning the Queen
She was of course fabulous despite about 5 people giving a shit
I doubt it because she never really happened even when pop was big despite quite a big push initially and Radio 1 support. Though she was less "poppy" then.
Ever since it's been ever diminishing returns. God looking at her chart history it's even worse than I remembered - I thought that Primadonna at least went top 10, but no, 11
I also forgot that Radioactive was such a bomb. Froot singles of course nowhere in sight. Did she make any money from it at all?
AND managed to be about the only person to flop with Clean Bandit.
It's like everyone actively hates her, but I suspect in reality she's actually a divine woodland spirit of dance and music that only those with the gift can see. THAT'S why she flops
Where would we be without underrated queens tbh.
Froot wasn't that good. It was too samey and lacked the character of her previous albums. Still here for whatever she does but I hope she ditches the dancey stuff and gets back behind a keyboard.
Froot was a fucking huge step up and I hope she never goes back to the dubious melodies of Electra Heart or the unlistenable warbling of the debut.
Bollocks. Large sweaty old man's unwashed bollocks.
The way Froot was released made it very unbalanced for me, I love the tracks that were released each month but don’t care for the ones that completed the album. Froot, Immortal and Happy are all 10/10.
Electra Heart is a stronger album.
I'm a Ruin is the greatest thing she's ever done.
A clip is knocking about Instagram of a new song she did last night at the Neon Gold 10yr thingy. Sounded very Electra-Heart to me...seems to be called Emotional Machine.
There's a whole song out there
Never takes long, does it...hampered by a poor mix which seems to place backing vocals higher than lead but hey ho.
brief tease of new track Enjoy Your Life, sounds incredible naturellement
first single out Jan
I could really go a new Marina album now actually.
First single coming in exactly 7 days, boys and girls
That news has made my week! (Not much has happened this week)
What the actual fuck? Her debut is one of the best albums of the past 15 years...
It's a tense moment...
I know right!
I need this album immediately.
I'm not into that "singer songwriter doing the most to prove how QUIRKY they are" shit. Her voice is all over the fucking shop. Give me the shiny, polished pop gold of Froot any day.
Breathe? Is that you?
No it's just Jark being an ungrateful rubbish gae again
either single or album is called Handmade Heaven
Handmade Heaven is the single coming Friday, it's a ballad. She says it's a bit of a misnomer in the context of the whole album, which is called Love + Fear.
Can we get the thread title edited?
Given that this thread is a fucking bin fire, I think a new one would be a better option...
HERE WE GO
I didn't realise it was the new Birds of a Feather theme song but I like it very much! I think it points to another album not far removed from FROOT, and that's just FINE with ME
I like it, but the hit she wants and which she should be going for after the (relative) success of "Baby", it ain't...
I wanted something a bit camp but this is gorgeous.
It’s more of an album track than a song to launch a new album
here's the video.
more of the same, albeit loveliness, both lyrically and in terms of sound. i like the visuals but as with the song it's just a tad underwhelming on first listen.
at least it's not another baby i guess.
Yeah, cause THAT plan worked out so well last time...
I like it. It will do exactly nothing chartwise.
On her own a hit is not on the cards no matter what she comes up with. This is lovely anyway.
Yeah it's really frustrating because she's precisely the kind of artist who can really transform pop music. But she just never gained traction.
