Oh this is devastating for Paula. It was always going to be a long shot but I guess that's her Olympic dream over. :(

Are there any other GB gold hopes today other than Addlington?

Nope, it's not until next Monday. Hopefully Beth wins the medal before she retires.

Could they have repeated that Chinese girl's vault landing any more?

The BBC commentators keep saying she's looking 'OK' - a bit more enthusiasm please

They were very enthusiastic at the end.

Good result, the 800m she'll stand more of a chance of defending

Obviously she's one of her finest athletes... But she totally looks like a walrus.

Fantastic for Becky, especially considering she wasn't expecting anything a few hours ago.

"It's a great lane" What does that EVEN MEAN?

I wish when the swimmers got introduced and come out that they were already out of their tracksuits. Then you could play that inevitable yes/no game in your head much more easily.

In Glasgow "it's a great lane" either means you won't get raped or it's a quiet one to get up to all sorts, I'd imagine.

Thorpe is so humourless. Completely AGOG that Linekar could suggest he swam in a wetsuit (and basically cheated)

Thorpe is painful to watch. I still would, though.

Good on Becky, wonder if she's not just a little bit disappointed only to get the bronze...

Is that only our second medal so far?

Disappointed? She said herself this morning she wasn't even expecting to get a medal.

So Thorpe can't win a gold so has decided to colour himself gold instead.

Ian Thorpe is more miserable than the QUEEN. He should be ASHAMED, etc. etc.

    If you're being serious...

The fastest from the heats (in both swimming and running) get drawn lanes 3-6 where they can see each other and know how fast to go. In swimming it can be a bit different. Although in lane eight they can't see who is in front, they don't get slowed down by the wake left by the swimmers ahead of them.
