CAN WE TALK about this FABULOUS queer-pop-alt-country icon :disco:

His album Pony is just TOO GOOD. Sort of male-Lana meets Roy Orbison meets Twin Peaks Roadhouse.

Hope To Die is a personal fave, but the whole shebang is so consistent.

    Cowboy King/Queen etc.

The general LOOK! I think this could be described as being a bit of a carry-on :side-eye::disco:

i think we have a thread on him.

he's definitely one of the coolest guys around but his music, save for the pj harvey aping big sky, has left me cold.

My only quibble is that the voice can verge on the musical theatre side of life. I’d prefer something a bit more Scott Walker-ish (Scott 1 - 4 era rather than the higher register of the later years which never quite did it for me)

I love that Orville seems to have become one of the big Halloween hits of the 2019 costume season :D

Anyway, saw him live earlier this week and it was just MAGNIFICENT. Even if you don’t care for his music or voice, you can’t help but be sucked in by the live show - it’s SO MUCH FUN. He could never follow this album up and be touring it for years to come.

In regards to his voice, it took me a couple of listens to get used to it but I love it now. It’s all part of the persona (including his Desperate Dan speaking voice when in Orville character :D ). It all adds to the delicious melodrama on a track like Hope To Die :disco:

    NEW SONG!

It's quite light and simple and along the lines of noted anthem 'Hope To Die' :disco:
King of releasing light and simple music when people really need to hear it :disco:

He's also signed to Columbia Records now, though still with Sub Pop - so I imagine they are gonna go heavy on festival bookings for next couple of years and we can probably expect some DIRE COLLABS :D I really hope they don't try to make him make his own Old Town Road..!

Well this is instantly one of his best songs, after the cute but light Summertime

Apparently there is a SHANIA duet upcoming on his new EP

Wow, the video is just beautiful :disco:

The bit where he dances by the fire :disco: / has a wash :horny:

This really feels like his Ride moment. What a brilliant song and visual package.

FULLY AWARE I'm just blathering away at myself, but I love this SO MUCH :disco:

I love it when you get a CAREER BEST song/video moment. Hope To Die was my fave song of last year, this could well take that MUCH COVETED MANTLE for 2020

KING! This is really fun. HIDEOUS cover art though :D

No Glory In The West remains the years joint best song/video package (tied with Arca's Time :disco:) despite HUGE COMPETITION from Christine & Polachek :disco:
