just got a DS (the new cobalt blue one) and Diamond last week

I've been doing doubles at work so I've racked up over 50 hours on the thing to pass time at night when there's nothing to do

I haven't played a Pokemon game since the yellow/red ones and I forgot how ADDICTIVE they are

it sucks ass that there are ones you can only get if you have the older games or by trade

I'm around 260 now... I had to break down and use a website to find out where to find some of these fuckers :eyes:

the trade system is a bit naff since everyone has crap that will never get traded for... I'm guessing there some sort of cheat thing related to that

I have got about 4 from trades though with lovely Japanese character names and a cat named George :D

all I'm finding is people wanting Lvl 100 Pokemon for some pretty basic ones

plus I finally figured out that it doesn't let you look for ones you haven't seen

I just put the generic bird pokemon up asking for rare ones in return, and a few days later they'd been traded!

The slowness of the game is exactly what led me to give up. First Pokemon game (excluding the spin-offs) that I've not bothered to do all the way through. I don't even feel like I'm missing anything and of course I will buy the next installment, but yes, all the unnecessary status changes and weather conditions that do nothing but bring gameplay to a standstill ultimately killed it for me.

I still hate that you can't trade for ones you haven't seen though :bad:

I tried this again last night - I forgot I had seven badges, I'm doing some guff at Mt. Coronet at the moment after getting the Rock Climb HM. I seem to be wandering around a lot into face-offs with Team Galactic (?) which suggests I'm at least going in the right area.

I tried the Wi-Fi thing last night but there was no-one in any of the rooms I went in. And when I did the underground thing my signal was 0...I don't understand.

well after getting as far as I could with trades and stuff I bought a used Action Replay DS and loaded up the cheats to fill out the National Dex :D

I also hatched about 40 Manaphy eggs and now have almost all the legendary Pokemon in my game

of course now there is NOTHING to do so I haven't touched it in days

I've been stuck on the fucking Elite Four for an AGE. I have half a decent team (Palkia, Empoleon, Gyrados) that are of most use, a Kadabra that is so-so (strong attacks, shit defence) and two utterly USELESS tag-alongs (Haunter, Pikachu). I can get to the fourth one pretty easily but have NOTHING that can hurt the Bronzor. We're all over level 50 though, I think it's a case of doing it over and over and over to level up.

If my Pokemon hard-wiring still holds up, Bronzor is susceptible to Fire, if that helps? I started off with the Monkey though

I don't think I have any fire based Pokemon - I've taken to just saving up Haunter to use Destiny Bond on it which is much quicker.

The Elite Four have always been so insanely stupidly levelled up - I know in most RPGs you have to do a bit of level grinding but the game totally doesn't prepare you for that level of difficulty.

    ...over and over and over...

I have no interest at ALL in filling up the Pokedex.

I see I now have access to a battle tower...because you know, it's not like I haven't just repeatedly battled for over FIVE hours.

Seriously, do you not get to go to other regions? One of the things I loved about Gold/Silver was the journey back to the original towns of the first generation - ok it was pretty much cobbled together but it was a great touch.

I've just been playing, it's a mod that creates a whole new game.
Naranja follows what happened in the Orange Island section of the TV series.
It's GOOD, but the version i've downloaded has some DODGY translation issues.

So in effect it is pretty much a new pokemon game, as Nintendo never add any new features anyway!

Yeah naranja is a whole new game, and it follows pretty much all of the amine events (like the crystal onix, the challenges the fight the gym leaders and whatever jesse and james are up to)

Yeah the translation can be abit dodgy but it's not a serious thing and you can understand perfectly whats going on most of the time.

2 big problems for me is that is sooo easy to get stuck on where to go next as there's no real path, and I've just found out the beta ends after the 2nd gym :( Still its definitely worth a play.

From what I've played so far shiny gold is exactly the same as the original (expect for one extra rival you seem to have) just with fire red graphics.
