Remakes of Game Boy Colour classics Pokemon Gold and Silver will be coming to the DS.

After hints from a Sunday morning television show in Japan, Nintendo announced that it is remaking the second generation of games in the series, according to PokeBeach.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be similar to the Fire Red and Leaf Green remakes on the Game Boy Advance, with the original quest updated with mechanics and items from later games, as well as trading with DS versions Diamond and Platinum.

The games will be released for the tenth anniversary in Japan later this year.

Released in Europe in 2001, Gold and Silver went on to sell 23 million copies worldwide.

    OMG YAY.

:o I was just thinking about whether they would ever get round to doing these a couple of days ago.

Fire and Leaf were quite good for what they were, weren't they?

Aren't they all essentially the same? What makes Gold and Silver so special?

    WHY?
For me the last DS games were just a tad past tired. It needs to go 3D.

I totally agree. The only bit of the series that interests me now is the first new game of the next generation (Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl). I know it's a money-making franchise and whilst there is consumer demand, Nintendo will continue to feed it, but it really makes me quite angry that so much hype is being spun on Pokemon Platinum at the moment.

It's the SAME game (with some minor adjustments). That Nintendo are spinning it out is bad enough, but for shops and websites to be joining in - literally for months now, is too far. It's being as hyped as a new game, it's priced as a new game, and let's face it, there can't be more than 5% max of "new" buyers - most will have already paid full whack for the first iteration of the game.

I gave up on this daylight robbery after Pokemon Yellow which was at least suitably different to justify it...

I still don't know why they haven't done a proper, full on 3D Pokémon game for the 360/PS3/Wii. I don't mean the stadium shit. I mean the real game in 3D. How amazing would that be?

I'd LOVE to see a 3-D Pokemon rpg, but the next new set of games for the DS have already been announced I believe.

I like Snorlax, but it always seemed like he would take up too much space.

Ninetales was clearly the most groomed creature of them all:

Although its first stage, Vulpix is much cuter.

I wish I had a Vulpix, sans the flame attacks.

I saw the old episodes of Pokemon on TV today when Ash was with Misty & Tracey ( :o ) in the 2000 season, and I was wondering why anybody would ever want a Ditto. Sure, it can imitate attacks but if it's not on a higher level than its challenger, it's basically USELESS.

I'd take Jigglypuff, Clefairy, or Chauncey anyday over this one. If it didn't have that Mimic power, it'd be more useless than Lickitung and Wobbuffett combined!

Thank god for Mew because Mewtwo was seriously an angry bitch in the movies.

But over time, Celebi has beaten Mew in the "legendary cutesy" pokemon aisle:

Celebi looks like one of Tinker Bell's friends from those new ill-advised spin-off movies.

Discovery that you could ACTUALLY CATCH MEW on Pokemon Red/Blue was an amazing moment as a child. I tried every botch method out there (the island with a van etc) to catch it so when it actually found it I was all kinds of :o .

I remember my friend cried for days when they accidentally deleted their file with an event Mew on it :D IF ONLY WE KNEW THEN

I vaguely remember finding Mew one time as well - the rare ones always appeared at night in either a grassy field or a really dark random cave!
