I guess we better have a thread for this.

    Anyone watching?

I’m giving the Opening Ceremony a go.

Not watched any yet, but I'm sure that I will. This is a really inconvenient time zone for the Winter Olympics given that most of the really interesting events require daylight and so happen in the middle of the night here.

Watched some of the opening ceremony earlier, had it on in the backgroumd, found ron jr transfixed by it, asked him what was happening and he said 'I've got no idea'

    Well that was rubbish.

    Highlight: Oiled up Tongan
Low point: Bloody “Imagine”. I can’t stand that song.

    Thats open to intense debate.

Basically rich white american girl just wants to compete at the Olympics. So spends two years touring the halfpipe circuit doing the bare minimum on the course (ie getting to the bottom without falling over)

Because there is a limited number of competitors, she manages to qualify on the fact she doesn't try and so just crash, where as serious competitors sometimes fuck up and crash.

So she then competes for Hungary somehow, just rides the half pipe without doing any tricks and comes last, just to say she went to the olympics.

Some people think shes a hero, others think shes a cunt.

Apart from wasting people’s time, is it that bad? Presumably Hungary didn’t have anyone better or they would’ve qualified instead

They didn't enter anyone else in any sports.

It kind of makes a mockery of the sport and olympics, which I get people are fuming about, but the blagger in me can't help but salute her for the sheer balsyness.

That said, there are many talented individuals that probably could do this, but can't because they aren't rich white girls.

Hungary do have other competitors - they have a world champion short-track skater.

It’s fine, at least she was half Hungarian.

If some rich white girl from Ukraine couldn’t sing for shit and paid to be the Sammarinese representative for Eurovision, people would be Yaaaasing and Weerrking with the best of them

It's just another variant of buying players. Heck, even some schools here are doing that at the national level
