This is great, I might be on board for this! - except it will end up at number 27 or something!

It won't work, so there's no real point wasting money pointing out the fact that it won't work, and further highlighting Cowell's EVIL HOLD ON CHRISTMAS

Yes, a friend of mine has already joined the group. Utterly futile.

Like I've said before though, as much as I enjoy X Factor, I do massively resent how it has destroyed the Christmas #1 race.

Would love for it to get to No1
Suppose if each of them (nearly) 200,000 people on that facebook group purchased the track it would get to No2.

Oh yes it's so tiresome how people get suckered into buying a single every year to get to Xmas No.1, it's always so manipulated

Let's all buy this other song instead because someone told us

Well EXACTLY. It's even more MINDLESS than buying the X Factor winner.

I find this far more tiresome than the X-Factor campaign. That campaign knows exactly what it is and has no pretensions to being anything different. This, however, is just exactly the same thing, just with the smug mask of credibility and a vague notion of being non-conformist. It is anything but.

Pffft wouldn't even get close... the people who get involved in this kind of shit are the people who always preach but have never bought a single song in the last 5 years of their life.

If we're going to do this, could it at least have been the re-release of Have A Cheeky Christmas?

Can't you be content with it keeping Love Profusion at #11? :(

Though I agree, they could at least pick a Christmassy song. MARIAH OR SHAKY please (and I don't mean Shakira)

Apparently the whole campaign has been orchestrated by an A&R man at Sony, who of course are the parent company of Syco as well as having RATM on their books. In short, anyone signing up as a protest is an ignoramus.

But it has 'I won't do what you tell me' in the lyrics. How can it possibly be a corporate scam?

It's all just a bit of fun though, isn't it? Nothing's going to beat The X Factor single to #1, and I couldn't really give a shit. But this is an opportunity to get a good track back into the charts just because we can. Anybody doing it out of protest is a cunt. But if a good percentager of those who join these Facebook groups ACTUALLY download the track, it should at least be top 20. It was one of these groups that pushed the FAR SUPERIOR Jeff Buckley version of "Hallelujah" to #2 last year (obviously massively helped by the fact that it was also the winner's single.)

Is the winner's single DEFINITELY "The Climb" this year? I figured that if they did decide to go with "Don't Stop Believing", then the Journey track would be far better suited to the campaign.

The NME has slated it, surprisingly.

There are now over 400,000 people that have registered on the Facebook group, so I will be surprised if it's not at least #2, even if only 25% actually buy the record.

I'm going to buy it cos I like the song anyway and if there is ANY CHANCE of keeping that COCKING X FACTOR SHIT off no.1 FOR ONCE, I'm all for it

It's all very rebels with a clue. People buying something, through a vague notion of being subversive, because Facebook told them to. How REVOLUTIONARY.

But Facebook isn't that, it's just a social networking too, merely a technological update on getting info via the old word of mouth. All what's happening here is a couple of people have started a campaign on Facebook to get a non X Fractor record as thr Xmas #1, and it has struck a chord with an awful lot of people.

Well there has to be some kind of consensus on what song to buy doesn't there! Saying "BUY ANYTHING EXCEPT X FACTOR" isn't going to work

Doubtless, but it's a self-defeating idea anyway, as it is no less conformist than the X-Factor campaign. Those people who think that doing this makes them different, a little bit leftfield even, are deluded. They are no less drones than the legions of us X-Factor fans who will download the winner's song. The only difference being that we know we are drones.

Look if there was a "SU POLLARD FOR CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE" group with 460,000 members, I'd join that

But THIS WILL HAVE TO DO

I'm not doing it to be "different" or "leftfield", I'm doing it because I am sick of SHITTY, DREARY, SOULLESS ballads, which wouldn't have a snowball's chance in HELL of charting if it wasn't for X Factor, RUINING the national institution that is Christmas Number 1.

But a dreary old RATM song from near 20 years ago would never re-chart again if it wasn't for X factor either. :)

Jeff Buckley got to #2 last year, because of the X Factor.

Only #2... not good enough  though it did provide me with amusement in the form of all the people who thought they were oh so clever for buying the original, when it's not actually the original.

I don't think it's to be non-conformist at all, it's just for people who don't like X Factor.

I hate the way the X Factor has raped and shat on the Christmas number one race - i always loved it as a child and thought it was a nice tradition. However i probably prefer The Climb (UNLESS IS IT SUNG BY OLLY MURS) to anything by Rage Agaisnt The Machine so i really can't get excited about this.

Why can't they release covers of Christmas songs instead? It would be so much more APPROPRIATE. If Leona had released "All I Want For Christmas Is You" with a nice jaunty festive video, maybe she wouldn't have got PUNCHED

Same reason Alexandra released Hallelujah when we have NUMEROUS other versions?
