Better than VIII

I give FFIX a 9. Not QUITE perfect but not far off it.
I gave it a 7, it was quite charming but I never got around to finshing it and lord knows where my copy is these days.
I remember loving this at the time, but I remember little about it now!
Maybe 7 is a bit harsh, 7.5 would be closer but I dont think it was an 8.
Perhaps I got tired of the older-style FFs that this draws on, but something was a bit lacking. The characters ranged from well styled and properly motivated (usually), through bland and annoying, all the way to completely pointless. (Read Dagger & Vivi, Zidane & Freya, and Quina & Amarant). The story felt a bit directionless and I didn't really get what Kuja was trying to do, especially near the end when he just basically transformed into HULK SMASH.
Maybe this would be amazing on its own, but as part of Final Fantasy it didn't measure up as well as some of the others. SORRY GUYS
10/10 for me.
Definitely my favourite one. At least the characters looked and played different from each other, unlike FFXII where they were all pretty much the same (except maybe for the bunny girl). God, what a DULL game it was, I can't even remember their names.
Had it's moments, but easily one of the weakest of the series.
People tend not to identify with FF9 as they got introduced to the more realistic looking 7 or 8 first. With 9, they drafted back in the original FF character designer from FF1-6 and created one of the most wonderfully realised fantasy worlds in the FF series. Also the music was absolutely stonking on this game. All valves on the PSone were open and firing on this game, which was only really let down by a slight sag in plot post Garland and having the likes of Amarant in the squad who had no dynamic.
I found it interesting that the focus of the game shifted as it went on, the first half of the game was all about Vivi and Dagger, but it all shifts towards Zidane towards the end.
might be of interest to some here
Got this the moment it hit the PSN! I love it to death, but the battles seem a bit more slow paced than I remember.
The battles were VERY slow. I'm not going near this until it hits US PSN.
It's a bit of a SHAME really. It's the only fault I can find with it.
There are points where NOTHING happens in battles and there is simply no reason for it.
I'm really flying through it as well. 20 hours in 2 weeks is quite a lot for me!
Turn up the battle speed?
It's right up to the max!
I’m having pangs for playing this again. I don’t want to fork out $30 though considering I already purchased it for PS3.
It would go down well on the Switch though.
It's a brilliant game. I hope they go back to this aesthetic with the next FF
