I'm no particular JUDY fan but you can't EVEN can you really. I must say we were all WEEPING when dear LIZA T played SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW on her show on Saturday but then we had had a LARGE PORT and you can't say she doesn't know her audience of AGING GAYS USUALLY WITH DOGS. Anyway I DIGRESS
That is truly bizarre casting...
There aren't enough s in the world...
I really don't know how I feel about that photo.
I saw that on Instagram earlier and thought it actually was Judy
Renee Zellweger may not be transformative as an actress but she definitely LOOKS LIKE A DIFFERENT PERSON every time I see her.
I think that's Christian's default.
What does that emote actually mean? I think VoR once posted a comprehensive dictionary of Moopy emotes.
It means "KindaCool is a cunt"
THAT'S Christian's default? I'm honoured.
if you’ve been here since 2012 and still haven’t grasped the manson...
Why don't you come on over and grasp me in the manson sometime
I’m ready for a Renée comeback
No real ACTING in the teaser trailer
Yeah it’s weird that they don’t let her deliver any lines.
When is the UK release date?
I am loving these biopics at the moment.
Proper trailer is out.
Hmmm. I'm not sure she's really nailed the speaking voice, the look is more Renee Zellweger as Judy Davis as Judy Garland and it all looks a bit shallow/silly. But we'll see...
There is absolutely NO NEED for that trailer to be two and a half minutes long other than to create some Oscar buzz
i really quite like zellweger. hope this is good.
Renee is quite good but the movie is aggressively average and by the numbers. I don’t know enough about Judy to compare so it just felt flat.
I read a story yesterday by her former PA who said she was not only sexually assaulted by Judy, she also found a drug crazed Judy standing at the bottom of her bed whilst she awoke from her slumber to then be chased around the hotel room with a carving knife.
There were too many flashbacks, and the child they got to play her looked far too much like a young Elizabeth Taylor instead of Judy, so the jumps made that all the more distracting.
I’m quite pleased this has turned out to be crap.
I had a quick sampling of the soundtrack on Spotify and it only confirmed what a huge mistake it was letting Renee re-record the vocals rather than lip sync to Judy.
It worked very well in the Elton film
But then that was more musical theatre rather than realism
Did Remi Malik resing the VOX on the Queen thing?
Rami Malek lip-synced to the original Mercury vocals with some of his own voice blended in.
I didn't mind Taron Egerton's singing in Rocket Man, but to be honest I don't think Elton John's main selling point has ever been his voice. Judy Garland and Freddie Mercury are a much taller order to successfully impersonate. It's not that Renee can't sing well, it's just that they don't have anything approaching that extraordinary Judy magic.
I haven't seen the film yet though so it's possible they work better in context.
Her vocals in Chicago are terrible. Roxy has the best songs and she really doesn’t do them justice.
That bit where she comes into All That Jazz is PAINFUL
Zeta wiped the floor with her in that!
She was good in Chicago, Roxy is easier than Velma vocally.
Oh I loved her in Chicago. I actually loved everything about Chicago and thought it was a very deserving BP winner.
I saw the film last night and she really was very good. It’s true that no one can quite bring the vocal magic of Judy so I wasn’t really expecting that aspect to be as good, but her overall performance is brilliant. There’s a very touching scene involving an omelette
Roxy has Roxie (Parts 1 and 2!), Funny Honey and We Both Reached For The Gun. Those are some musical theatre powerhouses! Velma requires a great dancer. That Fosse choreography is an absolute BITCH.
