Having been obsessed with her late 90s singles, this put Robyn back on my radar when it gave her a modest European comeback in 2002. I bought the album on Import and lived for it. She's subsequently said she wasn't completely happy with it, but she still sings this song live regularly so I think she likes it. Bev Knight later sucked 90% of the joy out of it and had a UK top 20 hit, but the original is obviously where it's at.
The Bev version wasn't THAT bad. I like the more electro version with Knife-y production, but both are a solid 9.
BUMP in honour of this being restored to Spotify AIN'T NOBODY STOPPIN' ME WHEN IT COMES TO YOU AND ME
I LOVE this. I don’t think I have ever heard the Bev Knight version, and don’t really feel the need to.
Even Bev doesn't like it much though, does she? I'm fairly sure she was strong-armed into recording it because the record company wanted a chart hit on that album.
You are right. It’s GREAT. I don’t think I have heard this song in 10 + years and it is still fresh whether that be Robyn or Bev’s version.
Well that's kind of obvious- it wasn't her STYLE, but she sells the shit out of it. Whatever you think of Beverley Knight (and I am LONG past being a fan...THANKS MOOPY!) she can sing the arse off stuff like this.
It was definitely designed as Bev's "big hit", though. I reckon they went with "Not Too Late For Love" second because it was her choice after the atypical "Come As You Are" and when that bombed, it took the wind out of her sales. It was a big airplay #1, wasn't it? Which was ridiculous considering its chart trajectory...
Happy to see that this video’s choreography is still the single most appalling display I’ve ever seen. I mean *leaves previous activity as if mind controlled* *plods into position* *stacks the imaginary Tesco shelves* *robot dance* *something nicked from a Billie Piper video* *sticks arse in the air unceremoniously* *something nicked from a Janft video* *walks like an Egyptian* *sonic boom*
Yes and whilst she’s got a lot blander she’s always been a good time guaranteed live performer. And this should’ve been a big hit from one of her later albums.
She’s seems to have given up on original music all together which is a shame cause even the patchier albums had some gems in them. I tried listening to The Ladies of whatever musical covers album and it’s just so deathly bland.
Can we change the thread title to Beverley Knight - Keep This Fire Burning cause it’s obvious no one gives a shit about Robyn’s version.
She's carved a fairly successful career on the West End hasn't she? She's probably made more money being Whitney than she ever made with her albums
