i cannot believe there is not a thread on this opus

saw it last night and i walked out of that theatre a woman more empowered than ever (i'm totally gonna fuck up my russian accent and learn martial arts these days)

it is of course nothing more than angelina having a bit of a wank and surreally irrelevant, but it was really good fun and often wonderfully wtf

that aside i also have to shamefully admit that i found a few bits of it quite touching and even had a little cry

    altogether long live saint angie!

It looked like nothing more than an action movie from what I saw in the trailer the other day. How did you manage to have a cry also? :D

I'm not that crazy about Angelina, but the trailer looked great. Will see it later this week.

is that really a review of a movie or just some woman channelling her dislike for angelina jolie?

lindy west, whoever you are, piss off kindly

it is a ridiculous action-packed movie about a spy starring angelina jolie - that really should be enough information for anyone to know whether they'll love it or hate it

another clue: it will not win an oscar, but it might win a razzie

But no, from what I've read about it, this looks like the kind of film I would totally love.

    PERFECT :disco:

I am very excited indeed to see this. La Jolie in a femme spy flick which was actually intended for a MALE lead - can't go wrong

i don't know if this lindy west, whoever she is, is a film reviewer, but if she is and she hasn't seen hackers, mr & mrs smith, the good shepherd or alexander she can literally go and fist herself

    don't be too sure
there's a scene towards at the finale which is so ludicruously amazing, i wouldn't be surprised if she picked up the entire movie just to do it

This has been hyped SO MUCH here that I'm dying to go see it. I do enjoy the occasional Jolie movie, too bad the same can't be said for Anniston

:D I keep seeing the poster for this at the cinema, it looks so cheap. Just has SALT in a very PLAIN font, with a rather terrible photo of her, and a nondescript default background. Looks like it was made by the Powerpoint "Movie poster wizard".

And the tagline is "who is salt?" ?!!?

    FLOP POSTER

Is that Lindy West thing actually meant to be a review? I laughed but it just felt like three minutes of (slightly hackneyed) stand up material on the subject of Angelina Jolie.

Try less hard, Lindy West, and review the goddamn film. I like Ange myself, but i doubt i'l bother with this until late 2011, when in need of a fourth film for the hmv four for twenty pounds offer.

I remember before Changeling came out so many super-nerds (including me :shy:) got REALLY taken in by the hype, and were sure J Michael Straczynski would get the Best Screenplay Oscar and finally have the Hollywood clout to make to make a film version of Babylon 5 - then Changeling actually came out and nobody ever mentioned such a preposterous idea again :D

just looked at the reviews looking for a cackle or two and i'm surprised to see it's been quite well received: metacritic score is 65 which is "generally favourable reviews" (inception:74, kick ass:66, iron man II:57)

here are a few excerpt across the good, the middling and the bad reviews

    100 Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
It's gloriously absurd. This movie has holes in it big enough to drive the whole movie through. The laws of physics seem to be suspended here the same way as in a Road Runner cartoon.

    80 Time Richard Corliss
She's (Jolie) got what no other Hollywood woman even tries for, and which is embodied among recent international stars perhaps only by Hong Kong action star Michelle Yeoh: feminismo.

    80 Salon.com Andrew O'Hehir
This is a daring, audacious and sometimes terrifying movie -- purely as a thrill ride, it's probably the summer's best offering so far. That doesn't mean it left me feeling entirely satisfied. There's an emptiness at the soul of Salt -- again, meaning both the movie and the character -- that's extremely disturbing, maybe on purpose.

    75 Washington Post Ann Hornaday
It's popcorn pulp that collided -- at 100 mph, natch -- with a far more sober and crafty grown-up movie.

    75 Rolling Stone Peter Travers
Primed to keep your pulse racing so your brain will stop thinking, "WTF!" Go with the illogic or you'll miss the fun.

50 The New York Times A.O. Scott
She is the prime special effect, and a reminder that even in an era of technological overkill, movie stars matter.

25 New York Observer Rex Reed
Salt is about as believable as a secret training program for military pilots consisting entirely of kangaroos in flight helmets. But it must be said that the star carries her load admirably.

I was a bit disappointed. The action was good, but I didn't get into the story. It was so obvious that the Scream guy was Russian as well. I enjoyed Knight & Day sooo much more.

OT: i QUITE LIKED Changeling. I thought it was over long yet and a bit unsatisfying in some areas, but it was nicely made, Ange was good, and there was one moment of genuine shock and horror for me that i'm not sure has been equalled by any other films.

I am Team Aniston too but I did enjoy "Changeling" a LOT and thought old Ange did brilliantly in it.
