The dog just forced me to get a chipbarm from the chippy on our walk. Luckily I have an emergency fiver in my phone case for just such an emergency.

Well cooked calimari is utterly DELIGHTFUL. You must be careful though, as just a minute overdone can turn it in to the texture of an elastic band.

It was the dog, he just sat down outside the window as we were walking past! It might be because I only ever walk him that way when we're going to get chips so he thinks that when we get there he should sit down outside and stay because that's what he's done every time we've walked past for the last eight years. But I didn't intentionally go for chips today, the road is closed where our usual Saturday long walk takes us and this is our long walk in the other direction. Who am I to stamp all over my pupface's happiness?

Bolton fish market is amazing. It stinks but they have live crabs and lobsters and every kind of edible marine life you can imagine for a fraction of the price supermarkets charge for their three-week-old, pre-frozen tastless offerings.

Bolton fish market surely is a deeply unpleasant euphemism rather than an actual place.

Greetings from Berlin, where I'm having a rare hour to myself in the privacy of my hotel room with the aircon on full blast.

The spawn did a 5k Tough Mudder yesterday a few miles from our house. They stayed in a hotel in Manchester and were going to have a nice meal out for their engagement last night. Anyway today I stalked her iphone to see whether she'd gone home this morning and it showed her approaching the dual-carriageway round the corner from our house so I assumed she was going to pop in and see me but she didn't. She carried on into Town and stopped there for an hour by which time I had to go and collect Mr F from work. By the time I got home again they were already on the way back to Blackpool. I know I'm trying to loosen the apron-strings but it really hurt my heart that she didn't do a two-minute detour, even if it was just to say hello, have a hug and off again. I know I'm being oversensitive so I haven't told her that I know she went past, it's pathetic but I'm on the verge of tears about it. This shit had better get easier.

I don't know if this will help or not Floppet, but I've recently changed the surgeries where I work, and on a Tuesday I'm now about a three minute walk away from my mum's flat. I was there for two weeks before she told me that she doesn't like me walking past her door without calling in, so now I have to call in on the way home from work each week - even though most of the time I don't even go in. She just wants to say hello and give me a kiss.

And I ought to add that I see her most Sundays anyway..!

I suppose sometimes as the child you feel like if you're stopping by, you have to make it a long stay. Perhaps just tell her sometime that if she's ever around, just pop by and that you don't mind if it's just 2 mins.

I sometimes bike past my parents house on a ride and I don't bother to go in. I haven't seen them for months either.

She already knows that, last weekend she was meeting up with one of her old college friends down here for coffee and popped in. I had to tell her to leave fifteen minutes later or she was going to be late for meeting him. She turned up with the words "it's only a flying visit, give us a kiss, I'm meeting whatsit at his mum's for a brew".

:D So no, it doesn't get easier. At least I know I'm not the only soppy mum.

I see my mum twice, sometimes three times a week. Every Saturday I take her out shopping or we go for lunch etc, and I go round at least once after work during the week, usually a Wednesday for a couple of hours. She only lives 5 minutes walk away, so I pass her flat constantly without going in. I think the longest I've gone without seeing her is about 2 weeks, when I go on holiday.

I'll be on that show, 18 kids and counting. That way at least one of them will be round each day right?

Nah. Just how it is. I like my parents a lot, but as a family we don't go out our way for each other.

I would hate it if my 2 lived so close, and didn’t come to see me. You obviously have your own reasons, but I think at my maturing age I have realised my bambinos are a blessing .

My mum lives 7 hours away so it’s a nightmare of logistics to get home regularly so I only manage around three times a year which I hate.

I imagine if she lived two minutes away it would be a different story. :D

My mum is in Beirut, so naturally I get to see her once a year, twice tops.

But I try to call her daily (even though I hate phone calls) because I know anything more than a couple of days of me not calling is too much for her. If it was cheaper to go to Lebanon, I’d definitely go visit more often.

I haven't seen my mum in over a year. One more month to go.

We speak once a week on the weekend, depending on how busy we are the call can last anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes.

Why did I spend time reading it and feeling a sense of deja vu before realising its over a year old?
