It's possible this thread will flop, but I know some people are avoiding the main coronavirus topic because of the emotions it can stir up. I thought it might be useful to have a separate "bad news free" thread where we can actually discuss any positive ideas or coping tips that we're finding during this time.

I'll start with one that seems pretty obvious, but I live alone and have found that picking up the phone and talking to people is at least 10 times better than swapping text chat messages. And yes I appreciate the irony of saying that over this medium.

Do something creative. As of next week I've got Ron Jr with me, I'll still be doing a bit of work, but he's my responsibility during the hours of 9-3.

He loves music, over the years I've played around with making music digitally, so we're going to sit down and create music together. He'll learn the basics of working a DAW, I'll pursue something that I've always put to the bottom of my todo lists. Tempted to get a digital controller and teach him to mix too.

Everyones got a creative burning desire. Write a book, learn to paint etc. If you've suddenly got time and space on your hands, now is the time.

I’ve been obsessing over Epicurious’s 4 levels videos. There are more layers of bonkers though

    3 levels of chef:
Level 1: total amateur, usually a millennial revelling in how garbage they are but somehow trying to not be garbage (in vain)

Level 2: a seasoned home cook, taking that as validation to get their own cooking show if they can just sell their personality enough, and boy howdy, do they try!

Level 3: pro chef, usually dull as ditch water, using ingredients and machinery budgets from another galaxy, often taking several days for their recipe and ending up making me want what Level 2 cooked

Level 4: the food scientist, usually the radiant Ms. Trout, a combination of Leslie Knope and Dr Robotnik and she WILL kill you while smiling. Her hair is otherworldly.

I've made sure my Mum can use FaceTime on the iPad so her and Dad at least can have some face to face contact during this time.

I'm going to bunk off work this afternoon/ potentially tomorrow as well to try and get an exercise bike/ cross trainer or something from a charity shop. There's usually loads and not being able to use the gym, I thought it was a GOOD IDEA.

I've also decided on a RISKY DECISION.

I really want an 80s moustache that has become the HIPSTER TREND of, well, ok, LAST year. But I'm scared under the beard I've had for 10 years and which I LOVE and everyone else LOVES, there's still going to be a double chin, despite all my fitness and weight loss this year. So I thought I might try and get it all shaved off and see what it looks like whilst there's no social events for it to MATTER. It'll grow back by the time this is over if it's awful and I look like a BIG BABY without chin pubes.

Use this time to take BEAUTY RISKS, Moopy :disco:

Yeah, I'm all about books and movies

As I said in the other thread, anyone with Vodafone Rewards, NOWTV is offering a month of Sky Cinema through them for free.

Also, if you're going to order food in or when you go out shopping, please go to local shops/ non-chain restaurants who deliver- they need us more than ever during this and the big boys will be able to weather the storm.

I'm aware of carrying anxiety in my chest, so I'm going to make sure I practice mindfulness or at least breathing exercises intermittently throughout the day.

Shaving my beard was a high risk move. I did learn to love my tiny chin again.

    Do it for the 'gram.

If mindfulness seems a bit wanky, just take a few minutes out to do 4 7 8 breathing.

    Yep.

We've got Amazon Prime and Netflix at home, so there are plenty of options. We've also got my extensive DVD collection to REVISIT at our LEISURE (which I'm SURE the BF would be pleased about :D )

I would love to do this! I love a cross stitch too :shy:

I've also got loads to do in the garden, but having to look after Kylie and Dannii means I won't get anything done. Think i might end up going a bit mad...

Oh and GARDENING if you have a garden (more lockdown than self isolation). But even if in a flat and/or you have a balcony you could grow veg, potted plants etc.

It could be a monumental disaster. Last time I did it, I looked like George Dawes. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror for two weeks :D

I suppose I COULD give my mother access to my amazon prime again, as long as I'm prepared for all the emails telling me all the films she has BOUGHT.

Been there, done that. 2020 has been about hair GROWTH rather than the other way around.

You will get some SERIOUS likes for it though.

Oh DON'T remind me of the time we first got Amazon Prime at work, I used it to access the video and, drunk, me and three friends watched something with a title like "Brazilian Lesbian Prison Sluts" (AMAZING, by the way- soft porn, bad acting- the WORKS) on it for about 5 minutes and my communal work email got an email the following Monday saying "Please review Brazilian Lesbian Prison Sluts"...

Is there any limit to the amount of people that can use an Amazon login, by the way? I was thinking of opening it up to everyone at work...

I'm not aware of it. And unlike Netflix, you can buy content on Amazon Prime, so there's less incentive to want to restrict it.

That is actually an issue, though, as it opens up people being able to use the company credit card to do that. Thanks, I hadn't thought of that!

I mean more about the ordering of films etc. It's SO easy with Amazon Prime to not notice what is paid for and what is "free"
