From the 90s obviously. I think this is a good a place to start as any.

from the moment she casually saunters up to the mic and immediately starts cooing you know it's gonna be a moment of big hair and bigger vocals.

    also

    effortless perfection

This in particular showcases just how insane her vocal abilities are.

    My favourite:

The whistle notes are just EFFORTLESS and she had so much control.

One of my favourite Mariah songs ever, it's sheer delight. I wish she'd done it once on TV or something.

This, particularly the last section, is about as good as it gets

This is another all-time fave as well. I only came to it recently. "Bluebirds flyyyyy-yyyyy-yyy-ay-ay" :disco::disco::disco: from 1:47 and slapping the air at 2:17 being the high points.

I also want to say I'm glad not to see the Grammys 2005 performance in this thread. The We Belong Together climax was NOT live so it does not qualify for consideration.

In terms of performances from the 00s to now, there are very few that I could hold up as being massively enjoyable. Combination of the obvious insecurities, vocal limitations and the ever-looming danger of her being exposed for the mimed bits. But it's not a massive issue for me - her favourite parts of her 'job' are writing and recording and she still excels at both.

I wish she would do more pared down performances rather than the attempts at the big bombastic moments. This is along those lines and probably my favourite thing she's done performance-wise in the last 10 years or so, although The Distance also on Jimmy Fallon this week really was quite fab.

I find her posture the most AWKWARD part of almost every performance.

I'm not sure the X Factor ever brings out the best in high-profile guests, but was this even remotely live - bar the stray whistle notes escaping from somewhere right at the end? :D

There was something about nineties Mariah that was so effortless, confident and engaging that I really don’t think you can say she’s never been a good live performer

But I agree that performing live isn’t necessarily in her comfort zone. Particularly when she’s in front of a tv camera
