Thank God. I know I'm in the minority but her country stuff was SO BORING.

"Good is good and bad is bad" :daf:

And it's also a pretty good track.

    It's excellent in fact!

Probably her best album for me overall.

"Good Is Good" is excellent and so is Wildflower, which along with Sheryl Crow and The Globe Sessions forms the Holy Trinity of Sheryl albums.

And of course it's not country.

I loved the county album. The awful Memphis one on the other hand...

Wildflower is OKAY...Chances Are was gorgeous, but the rest was really all filler no killer

It fares better when compared to the DROSS that followed though. I'm ALL FOR a return to the nineties.

90s Sheryl is what we all want. I quite enjoyed the Country album for what it's worth though. It's not as if Tuesday Night Music Club was a million miles away from country anyway.

All of her stuff has been about a twang away from country. The country album just felt like a parody and and a bit forced, so missed out a lot of what makes her so good.

I never liked that album and I was suspicious of her when the second album was out despite loving all the singles. 'The Globe Sessions' is THE Sheryl Crow album for me. I do/did get a lot of enjoyment out of 'Sheryl Crow', 'Wildflower' and 'Detours' as well. All the other albums have a couple of stand outs but I can't take or leave.

First single from the album is "Halfway There" - can't find a link for it but it's on iTunes. It's giving me self-titled vibes which has sent my excitement for this album through the roof. YES SHERYL.

Why is Gillian Anderson on the cover?

Well, I'm around for this. The 2nd album, my god, cock-blocked by Alanis, it should have sold even more than it already did. About 4 or 5 years ago I genuinely felt so many songs on it reflected something I was experiencing, not many albums have had that kind of usage for me. Anyway, I have medium hopes.

The new song is ok. I have hopes there will be better on the album and am pleased she has abandoned Cyndi Lauper's genre ticking career path anyway.

Did anyone get this? It's very listenable on first listen. It does musically hark back to the first three albums although in a much more polish mannered. Lyrically and vocally not so much but it over delivered to my ears.

It makes me think of C'mon C'mon with a more bluesy edge to it. I enjoyed it on first listen and think it will likely grow a lot.

You know I really liked her Detours album.

I didn't enjoy Be Myself to be honest.

    My Sheryl Crow album rank:

    1. The Globe Sessions
    2. Wildflower
    3. Sheryl Crow
    4. C'mon, C'mon
    5. Tuesday Night Music Club
    6. Detours
    7. Be Myself
    8. Feels Like Home
    9. 100 Miles From Memphis

Be Myself was quite a let down :(

100% agree that Globe Sessions is her best album

I still can't forgive her for touting "Be Myself" as a return to the sound of the second and third albums. Like f**k it was! Was she taking the piss? It had some vague production similarities, but that was it. It was the same pleasant-but-unremarkable MOR stuff she's been peddling for the past 10 years. Nothing I've heard so far from "Threads" excites me either. On the one hand, I'm appalled that she's saying it's her last album, but on the other hand, I think she's clearly a spent force.

    1. The Globe Sessions(One of my favourite albums of all-time)
    2. Sheryl Crow
    3. Tuesday Night Music Club
    4. Wildflower
    5. C'mon, C'mon
    6. Feels Like Home
    7. Detours

    Oh no :(

Surely it can't be her last? I mean she lost all her masters so she can't make money from reissues.. she'll continue recording I imagine..

She's just said she going to be releasing individual songs from now on as the music landscape has shifted away from albums.

Which essentially means her albums sell fuck all so what's the point in releasing them.

She should take a leaf out of Madame X's book and consider releasing limited edition glitter cassettes and bandana bundles.

(Cause, y'know, that helps so much..)

I'm not sure Shirley has much market for... anything really.

Got to say though, I saw her live a few years ago and she was spectacular. Great voice, great energy and all the hits sound so good live.

I'm not even sure that she makes any money from her older material anymore. Didn't she actually sell her entire catalogue to some investment firm a few years ago?

But yeah, she's been very insistent that this is her last album. I'm sort of appalled at her attitude. So what if they don't really sell? As an artist, doesn't she still believe in the album as an art form? Can't she just record albums and release them still, even digitally if needs be? It doesn't have to be on a major label.

To be fair there is nothing to stop her getting some buzz by saying it's her last album and then releasing more ANYWAY.

But I agree that I fundamentally resent her attitude. I thought she was all about fighting the good fight etc

    :D !

Look at you all acting like you’re losing some NATIONAL TREASURE, as if you haven’t all been slagging off her output for the last decade!

    Shirley just can’t win! :(

Ash claimed they were done with albums. Before you knew it they were compiling their one-off singles on albums and then went back to albums proper anyway.

Also haven't been completely enamoured with the duet output thus far. As the list of collaborators suggested, it seem to lean on the hoary rootsy rock side of things. The most recent one with Chris Stapleton is the best of the bunch for me. It almost sounds like it could have been an outtake from the early albums (the verses have a bit of My Favorite Mistake in there):
