I think you need to knock 2 off Labour and 1 off the Tories for the deputy speakers.

It comes up for re-election after each general I believe - I think the convention is that whichever party is in opposition provides two deputies and whichever is in government provides one.

I think the standing order is by reference to do with whichever party provided the Speaker. One from the same side as the Speaker, and two from the opposite side.

The election still happens after parliament reconvenes though, doesn't it?

Yes. In 2010 the election was within a month of the Queen's Speech, with temporary deputies appointed before then. Same in 2015.

So notionally deputies would be immaterial to which party formed government initially?

(I mean at this stage Labour would probably just chuck the kitchen sink at buying off Tim Farron for confidence and supply but hey)

We already have a Government - it's the incumbent's to lose. The first confidence vote is on the Queen's Speech. I can't tell whether the vote on the Queen's Speech is before or after the temporary deputies are appointed.

    Oh DI :zombie:

Just say you HAVEN'T READ IT or you DON'T REMEMBER IT (not that that would have been much better given the circumstances)

Guess her usual tactic of TALKING SLOW and REPEATING THE QUESTION didn't pay off this time.

There was a 2 minute clip of the Sky interview which I couldn't finish it was so excruciating, like watching a 3 legged turtle trying to swim in a straight line. But it's a lesson to us all that when an ex-bf offers you a job you're simply not quipped to do, then don't accept it.

See, I really do love LADY DI but she shouldn't be at this level. She's fine working at local level, I'm sure, but Corbyn's situation with everyone jumping ship a few months ago has caused this. She's been the single most detrimental thing to this campaign, according to the media- but in fairness, she's done no worse than lots of white, middle class tories have :side-eye:

Some of my relatives intend to vote for George Galloway, which is incredibly frustrating. Its hard to get them away from his supposed solidarity with Muslims and support of issues to do with Palestine and Iraq. *rolls eyes*

This quiz is telling me I am 77% in line with the Green Party. That was quite a surprise. Also Conservatives were lowest with 26% - I always thought I was a little bit more right wing than some people my age, but only a smidgen. Apparently not.

The first time I did this I came up with UKIP, despite wanting to remain in the single market and have no limit on immigration.

Tweaked my answer on corporation tax and fracking and now I'm Plaid/Lib Dem.

I hope getting rid of her will make the party seem more electable. Or it just shows how shit they are by having kept her for so long.
