Ya, the delay is probably for the best. It began to look like shit halfway through the reveal.. and then the entire game was leaked... and then we knew it was shit confirmed.

Having seen more footage of this abomination I've given up on it. What a fucking disaster.

I just looked at some videos from E3, have they actually changed anything? It looks a BIT more zoomed-out so you can see more on the screen, I suppose.

There is no "uncurl" animation after Sonic gets flung in the air meaning you are pretty much forced to use a homing attack. Nothing like the original.

How can you get this wrong? It’s fucking Sonic in 2D. Left to right. Do a few loops. Bounce off a few springs. It’s hardly Mario 64s Tick Tock Clock.

I know it's episodic content, but four zones plus a special stage seems a bit STINGY - presumably once all the episodes have been released it'll get launched physically ANYWAY.

WHAT is going on with this? It's just DISAPPEARED.

Apparently the developers are "fine-tuning" the game based on the "great feedback" from fans (positive spin in action there) but they seem to have gone into hiding. I wonder if there's even much they can do about it now, I imagine they're just working on the follow-up.

I still reckon they'll have accidentally listened to the LOON fans and all this delay time will have been spent giving Sonic a big floppy willy and adding a Big the Cat SEX MINIGAME or something :(

The website has been updated officially revealing Lost Labyrinth Zone, which is essentially just Labyrinth Zone from the original.

Also, the cover has been revealed, which makes me slightly "aww":

The game is actually looking pretty good now. Seems Sega is listening, shame it took thousands of fans whining for them to make a decent game. Sonic Colors looks fucking rad though, but I wish it was multiplat and not just on the hold-me-back Wii :(

This is pretty cool - a fan-made Sonic & Knuckles 3D demo video:

    Slightly out-of-sync video:

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aaLqJHpcc-w?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aaLqJHpcc-w?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Seriously, the game is done, right? So let's just RELEASE IT Sega.

The first game certainly looks to be something of a "greatest hits" mixed up with some new stuff - The Lost Labyrinth gameplay is on IGN today, there's new stuff in it, but also some very familiar looking parts from the first Mega Drive game (e.g. the bit with the continuous running water):

    Video here

I'm just happy they've finally SEEN FIT to give him a proper running animation with wibbly blurry feet. If that's all they added during the delay then it'd still be worth it :disco:

Watching that latest video just gives me a big fat MEH.
I was hoping for something that looks like Sonic Adventure, but plays like Sonic 1-3/Knuckles.

Yeah the actual game looks very underwhelming. I'd rather play the first 3 again THANKS

Bear in mind that this isn't a "full" game in the traditional sense - presumably they've kept ideas back for Episode 2, 3, etc.

I'm sure it was confirmed a while back that Tails would be in Episode 2.

Aaaaand this is why Sega suck. They couldn't do this? Instead they've outsourced Sonic 4 and use their main team to make Sonic Colors...

Sonic Colors is, by all accounts, getting pretty good pre-release hype.

    Haha...

I'm buying it >_> Xbox LIVE has a "spend 2400 points, get 800 points back" deal for the month of october, so this is perfect at 1200 (overpriced for something which isn't even a full game).

I've played through Splash Hill Zone and it's not BAD. The sheer amount of leaks takes away much of the surprise - the rubbish running animation is still there, as is the homing attack. It's also a bit of a weird choice to abandon the old style continuous playthrough and instead kick you out of the zone after each act so that you can select another to play.

There's no linearity at all - once you've cleared the first act of Splash Hill, you open up the first act of the other three zones, same with act 2 and 3. The boss fights aren't tagged onto the end of act 3, they also need to be selected seperately. Still, there are some retro touches - the loading animation is the old Sonic 2 running sprite, and the continues icon is still the same as it used to be in Sonic 2.

It looks inevitably lovely on the iPhone, and the levels are certainly fairly big, though equally easy to zip through. One rather odd change, presumably just for a bit of style is that when you hit the old loops, the screen spins around (I worry that Diddy will get motion sickness) rather than just remaining static whilst Sonic does.

The special zones make quite good use of the iPhone's motion control. Essentially they are exactly the same as the ones from the original Mega Drive game, except you turn the zone and navigate Sonic through it, rather than navigating an automatically rotating field. Plus there's a time limit and you need to have a certain number of rings to get through some sections, so some backtracking required if you go too quickly.

I'm not sure if I can score it out of 10 just yet. It's not awful though, and that's something.

If that's the case it'll almost certainly be due to the 3rd Casino Night-lite stage.

It's really not BAD, but it is very short. The final boss is fantastically nostagic though (and he's a fucking bugger to beat)

The iPhone controls are REALLY annoying, especially on bits where you get launched in the air and have to quickly 'homing attack' a chain of items (which is a TERRIBLE gameplay mechanic anyway)

Here's another "why can't Sonic 4 have been like this" FAN VIDEO:

    9/10 from Eurogamer.

Sonic 4 is getting really good reviews although I have a feeling it's only because the game is 2D...

I think I'd probably take 1.5-2 marks off every review because there is certainly some kneejerk "it's 2D and it's NOT entirely crap" rating going on. But the more time I spend with it the more I quite like it. It's just unfathomably short, but by the time episodes 2 (and presumably 3) come along, hopefully with some FRESH designs rather than homages/re-makes of the original levels, you'll have a really good, complete game.

It's a shame we will have to wait until Ep 2 & 3 are released to have a 'complete' game. Spending $20 each on them just elevates it to a full-retail title and it just isn't.
