I'd have guessed sales took quite the dive between 2000-2003, which would make sense with "Free Me" being below "If That Were Me"

How horrifying to see ALL THAT SHIT (apart from 'I Turn To You' but certainly not apart from anything by BALDO BUNTON or PUG MUM) outsell 'Northern Star' which I maintain is truly lovely (especially the verses) :(

I've been inspired to take a gander at how the girls' solo work stands up on streaming.

    Monthly listeners:

    5,332,691: The Spice Girls

    280,106 - Melanie C
    245,353 - Geri Halliwell
    75,448 - Emma Bunton
    28,907 - Mel B
    24,326 - Victoria Beckham

Do the Spice Girls still get royalties? Is that not mega impressive for an act that has not been entirely relevant for 20 years?

Monthly listenERS? So 24,000-odd people listened to Posh, or just 24,000 plays

Do the Spice Girls receive royalties for streams? I didn’t know they still earned a salary from the group.

To compare against some comparable acts from the 90s

8,800,227 Backstreet Boys (that's with a current single out though)
    4,608,593 N*Sync
    2,710,788 Ace of Base
    1,682,521 Take That
    1,165,753 S Club 7
    805,140 Steps

And for some acts who were charting around the time the girls went solo...

    1,107,820 Ronan Keating
    800,336 Sophie Ellis-Bextor
    91,272 Kelly Llorenna :o
    48,407 Billie Piper
    25,801 Louise

So the group hold up very well for a pop group of their era on Spotify. As solo artists, predictably not so much.

Those Victoria Beckham streams are based solely on her first album, no? She's not credited (or she wasn't) on 'Out Of Your Mind' so COMPARATIVELY against the others who have more songs/albums and at least one #1 single, she's doing quite well.

Surely that high number for Ronan Keating comes from When You Say Nothing at All being on several love song playlists and the like.

I’d say the same goes for Spice Girls because of Wannabe probably being included in several playlists.

I always think Mel C's solo career could've lasted way longer and far eclipsed Geri's for success if only she hadn't farted out Reason (and perhaps a single or two before 2003 to tide things over). The DEFINITION of "will this do?". The drop off in quality from Northern Star was quite absurd, it was almost an instant career killer.

I remember being a bit bewildered by the lukewarm reaction to "Here It Comes Again" and then my face falling to a distinct frown when the album came out.

I actually quite like Here It Comes Again but when your two biggest singles were Never Be the Same Again and I Turn To You, it really is a bizarre song to return with

The best promo she did for this album was her spat with Louis Walsh on CD:UK

I guess she should have released Melt first, with a decent video.

    I liked HICA

I remember a review of 'Reason' described it as "focus grouped to within an inch of its life" which is pretty apt.

I don’t ever really think of it as being BAD, just incredibly bland.

It’s quite sad in a way because it seemed to be around that time that she became comfortable in her own body again after the drastic image change(s) during Northern Star.

I really struggle to recall how HICA even goes without prompting. On The Horizon was better, but really ill-suited to her voice.
