My point is that not all sand is effective. Some types can even have the opposite effect on your soul by clumping together and RETAINING water.
Yes I think it's really clay like. It's just so hard to dig up even to get the weeds out. I did a section a few weeks ago and the weeds are back in force. I'm slowly topping up with compost as I empty pots from flowers.
Does anyone have a bird feeder? I want to get some for the garden, need to find somewhere with cheap seeds though. Usually I just put out my old bread for the birds on a bird table but it's mainly the pigeons that get that!
We've just got a couple hanging from the tree, and use the suet balls and blocks (usually from Wilko, but most places sell the balls at least now) to fill them.
And then I don't know whether to get a bird feeding station with a little water bath, or just a couple of those hanging things to put up in the trees. My neighbour has one and gets lovely parakets recently
The hanging ones are so cheap - I'd try those at first at least. We seem to get a few different types of tits and robins with those.
I imagine they get through perhaps two balls a week. I tend to just fill it up with six, whereas he puts out two at a time.
That's what I thought Wilko have cheap ones although they're out of stock online at the moment. I get robins coming up to my bird table, but they're usually chased away.
